@Girgias@phpc.social sorry, should have specified--wasn't an option for this particular use case, because of missing extensions. Pie's fine otherwise, and I could probably work around the use case given some more research.

@nukehavoc oh yeah, I follow Jon :). I did some back-of-the-envelope math. The longest run in the US might be Miami-Seattle, via Washington DC and Chicago. Two trains, the Floridian (Miami-Chicago) and the Empire Builder (Chicago-Seattle). 6,775.2 km (4147 miles). 99 hours, including a 6-hour layover in Chicago.

Bard and Botstein are characterizing this as a "retirement" (he's 79), with all the usual long-time faculty/administrator retirement trappings, like remaining on the faculty and living on campus.

I don't see how any successor president is meant to function while Bostein is still on campus. Following a fifty-year tenure would be a hard act under any circumstances.

@gangrif neat! Though if it's really an old-school LAN party:

  • Everyone's lugging an enormous CRT with a small display size
  • At least one person needs to crack their case to install a 10/100 ethernet card
  • Someone needs the IPX and TCP/IP protocols enabled on their system
  • Everyone spawns Starcraft from the one friend's CD

;)

This is a twenty-five-leg parlay bet masquerading as foreign policy: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/19/us/politics/iran-israel-us-leader-ahmadinejad.html

@cthos@mastodon.cthos.dev That's a fair question. They're using Atlassian's status page product, so probably?

I'm astonished that Instructure hasn't updated the #Canvas status page in hours: https://status.instructure.com. Not even the usual "we're continuing to investigate" non-update.

While war itself remains as a possible policy option for modern states, no commemoration of past wars can be entirely pacific. Beneath the wholly admirable expressions of reconciliation and peaceful coexistence which almost invariably (and rightly) now accompany war commemoration, so long as states continue to possess armed forces and are evidently prepared to use them, there will always be some still, small voice reminding us that on occasion, for some communities and for some states, war works

I can't recall seeing it put that way before in a history discussing the conflict, and I've been sitting with that observation. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25402257-1916

"It's my party, George." Nigel Stock as Roddy Martindale disguises an exposition dump within a nightmarish and unwanted trip to a club. I don't think Guinness (as George Smiley) is ever angrier than when he flees.

I got my Moodle Composer mirror working with the new Moodle Marketplace just in time for the #php #pecl infrastructure to go offline. And no, pie isn't an option.
