@dimillian Congratulations. The Codex app is already great, but between you and @steipete (and the rest of team), I couldn't be happier and more excited about the future of the tooling you'll push forward to our benefit 🤗 selfishly happy in addition of happy for you. Hopefully you still find time to work on your open source projects, I have enjoyed so much reading your posts and your code over the years. 🙏

As a kid (and still today) I was impressed by the technical feat of watching a live broadcast of the Tour de France. Yesterday I was in awe watching NASA's live feed from the cameras on board the Spacecraft showing earth growing closer all the way to planes and other apparatus showing the descent through the atmosphere and splashdown of the capsule, all while millions were watching live on YouTube. What an amazing achievement that comes only second to the spaceflight itself. ⭐️

@kalleboo imagine if @jrose's swift compiler for MacOS (classic) wasn't an experiment but a real thing, we could suggest writing this in Swift for better and safer memory management 😅 ... or, just to fully fit in the 90's, rewrite it jn Java and enjoy your Mac being totally frozen and unresponsive while the GC runs 🙃

@siracusa given the number of Apple employees and ex-employees with Mastodon accounts I would have hoped to see (a long time ago already) Apple hosting their own instance for their employees or at the very least for their institutional accounts 😞 shame. Same goes for French public radio. I don't understand the hurdle, it makes far more sense for them to be in control of their social media platform in a federated environment rather than relying on the centralized ones of X/Insta/Bluesky. My company doesn't have a social media presence. If we were to have one, it would be through Mastodon with our own instance. (This is something we frequently question and evaluate)

@i2h3@toot.community Thank you for sharing. Also I loved how the blog post is illustrated with Memoji reactions through out. It makes it more human / expressive. Also, simple and clear writing on a complicated subject. Great job! That's hard.

@tvaziri everybody knows one has to hold command and option as the finder boots 😇 (Well, at least that's how it was before macOS X)

Hello @natpanferova. I think I bought the book less than 10 minutes after you posted that message. Instabuy as some others said. But why? Well, I really enjoy your posts. And I really enjoyed your previous book. Very succinct, to the point, and yet so informative while keeping it very practical and relatable (as in "not scary and understandable"). Also, your background and experience gives more cred than it is needed. This is my perception of you, and this is why I bought it instantly, confident. And you don't disappoint at all. This is your best yet. Each page could be the topic of a conference talk. I can't recommend it enough. Congratulations and bravo. Keep sharing, keep writing, you are a beacon in our community.

I wouldn't wish DMA-compliance on my worst enemy. Gatekeeping is bad. But the DMA requirements are IMHO far reaching and too prohibitive. They hinder innovation and don't do much to enable competition.

Firstly, I wouldn't requires that any new feature requires immediate API support for third parties. New features are not guaranteed adoption and are subject to strong evolution after first being introduced. Giving a 12-24 months window to come into compliance or remove the feature seems reasonable.

Secondly, I would argue that compliance should only be necessary if a third party actually requests access to gated features to build their service, and only if there is no preexisting alternative. I would even go one step further and require some reasonable amount of money to be paid by the requesting companies to the gatekeeper while working on the APIs and then have that money refunded when they actually ship their product to avoid frivolous requests.

Finally, and hopefully this is already the case, patents (for all their evil) should be enforced first, before any DMA consideration.

These is my unrequested-for and not-a-legal-scholar take. I am however a European citizen, and this has been my sentiment from day one, only to be reinforced since then. The EU really ill defined this; the cure is worse than the remedy. The intent is nice but it really misses the target 😓

I am pro competition and pro sovereign tech. This ain't it. Also I wish Apple & Google had been more reasonable from the start and read the room sooner to avoid all this mess.

@noheger@wien.rocks had they added a visionOS-like handle as the mouse moved towards the corner, the larger radius would have still been just as ugly to my eyes, but at least this whole thing may make more sense? 😓 (I wish this is not the "correction" course they pick)
