anti-AI policy added to libreboot lbmk: https://codeberg.org/libreboot/lbmk/src/branch/master/AGENTS.md i shall repeat here, the contents of this file, for posterity: fuck no. AI can get fucked. have a nice day. think for yourself. AI will only ruin your mind and deskill you. here are some articles: think AI makes you super hacker? think again: https://arxiv.org/abs/2507.09089 libreboot project is actively discriminatory towards non-human intelligence. we only accept contributions submitted by humans. if AI generated contributions are found, they will be removed. no exceptions.

Fun fact: 233 x86/x86_64 intel/AMD *chromebooks* have been added to Libreboot since last night. Here are a few patches (not every relevant patch shown below): https://codeberg.org/libreboot/lbmk/commit/5132a2bc1bb4558817c4ff6cd77d34ebb9d196a7 https://codeberg.org/libreboot/lbmk/commit/134155d9ea7c54de39a89eced98ffcedd918c5d7 https://codeberg.org/libreboot/lbmk/commit/a68f3f57fddb84cfd24cc6b744f4815d716158d2 https://codeberg.org/libreboot/lbmk/commit/3d1a915c5f8e1f2538c6115606c43448040b7962 https://codeberg.org/libreboot/lbmk/commit/32c53b48875714b60555dff7f8364a56d9faed3b I already added edk2 support recently. I wrote a script in a new util at util/mrimport/ in lbmk. It scrapes mrchromebox from a given repository, converting its coreboot repository and generating all the right configs under the right directory structure, that I could then copy into lbmk. Then I made manual fixes and adjustments to it. It accounts perfectly for mrchromebox config; it even builds separate edk2 binaries on each board that mrchromebox added EDK2 FSP GOP binaries to edk2... 233 chromebooks. lbmk generalises everything a bit more. Probably a few more tweaks to do, but this builds. Testing needed. Look at config/module/coreboot/mrchromebox_*_*uefi* in lbmk.git It should flash same as upstream?

So... you can use e.g. systemd-boot, and BSDs are easier too. Linux distros are generally easier. It works like normal firmware (but it's Libreboot). EDK2 integration is only part of a general effort to modernise Libreboot. You can find the upstream here: https://docs.mrchromebox.tech/ - Libreboot has integrated the EDK2 part of this project. Matt (mrchromebox) has been helping me. He maintains this payload for Chromebooks but it works on other boards. A lot of people don't know but pretty much every major computer vendor you buy from will ship with a variant of EDK2, though they ship proprietary forks. MrChromebox is an open source version, made specifically to boot as a coreboot payload. Matt maintains it for Chromebooks so that you can run normal Linux distros on those devices, and it offers a lot of really nice features. It's a huge project. Matt has been doing it for years. I'm planning to add his Chromebooks to Libreboot as well, at a later time, working with MrChromebox when I can.

I sell Libreboot, and Libreboot accessories: https://minifree.org/ I'm Libreboot's founder and lead developer; sales fund the project. These computers come with Libreboot preinstalled, which replaces proprietary BIOS/UEFI firmware. Libreboot offers far greater security and freedom to the user compared to proprietary firmware, removing or disabling certain malicious features (e.g. disabling Intel ME). Libreboot gives you freedom. It's the same argument as using, say, Linux instead of Windows. Libreboot gives you back control of your property - your computer - and you can do what you want with it. Libreboot is a special distro of coreboot that provides nicer features for ease of use, focusing on non-technical users, while also being highly configurable for power users. It is a coreboot distro, the same way Debian is a Linux distro. Send-in service also available (Libreboot and other coreboot distros). Your choice of Debian Linux, other Linux distro or a BSD system on each machine.

As of right now, I'm fully back in operation, having been offline due to illness in June. I'm caught up on my work - shipments begin on Monday, 27 July. I'm planning to make a new website for Minifree in August. The current website is for for now though. In addition to Libreboot computers for sale, I also offer a coreboot send-in service more generally: send your computer to me for servicing.

I recently started selling Libreboot X280 on Minifree: https://minifree.org/product/libreboot-x280.html This, alongside other ThinkPads that I sell. All with Libreboot preinstalled; Libreboot is free/open source software replacing proprietary BIOS/UEFI firmware, offering faster boot speeds, better security and better customisation. Same reason you'd use Linux instead of Windows; Libreboot gives you more freedom. The X280 is similar to the T480, but it's smaller and much lighter. I'm selling it as a budget option for people who want something light that they can take on the road. I use one myself when I go out. This comes alongside a current discount sale that I have on other models as well, and a recent expansion to the Libreboot Send-in Service; I also offer installation of other coreboot firmware, on request. Eg. MrChromebox on Chromebooks (UEFI coreboot firmware and you can use normal Linux/BSD). I expect to begin shipping Libreboot X280 orders (placed in July 2026) from early to mid August 2026 onward.

I was going through some old work and got nostalgic. For no reason at all, other than me being bored, here's a SCPH-77003 PS2 slim I installed a modchip to in 2020. I'm actually amazed I managed to solder it at all, given that I used 30awg stranded copper with really thick insulation; most people use solid-core kynar which is much easier to use for precise work. My modern soldering is much better than this. Anyway, this board is worthless anyway, because it doesn't have the original MIPS R3000 on it. I only did this one back then because... it was a pink PS2 slim. I did a lot of these a few years ago, mostly for fun. These mods remove DRM and copy protections, letting you run whatever code you want. People mostly used these to copy games without paying for them, but you could also run emulators and crap, like, the machine became fully reprogrammable. I haven't done any of these in years. Perhaps I might do these again one day.

STATUS UPDATE: I've done emails, dealing with some stragglers in admin - I'm booking Minifree shipments. All orders will ship soon. GOOD NEWS: I'm taking new orders again! As I said before, I was off sick during June. I didn't even accept orders during June (I literally had people waiting to order machines from me). A few people canceled - I've dealt with a few refunds. Will deal with remaining stragglers. I've been scrambling since start of July pretty much non-stop to catch up on work. Admin is like, the main headache in my business. The actual lab work is easy. I reckon I'll have that done in a week or so. All sorted by end of July. Stay tuned for tracking numbers. I'm relentlessly working at the lab all through to end of July. I've been feeling pretty great the past few weeks. I also fixed some bugs that were reported in Libreboot, and merged some patches yesterday - I resume Libreboot development full time in September/October - pending tentative stable release for December.

FUN FACT: I've stopped doing RAM and SSD upgrades on new Minifree orders since 28 July 2026.

Someone can send me their RAM/SSD to install if they want, when ordering, or I now simply provide instructions for the user to upgrade it themselves if they source the parts themselves.

Yeah, finding parts at a reasonable cost is a full-time job, due to AI-driven price gouging of memory since late 2025. OpenAI can burn - and it will. I read recently that nearly one trillion US dollars was wiped off of AI stock globally. May the crash come soon, so I can get RAM cheap again maybe in 2027.

I was selling upgrades at cost, but I recently decided to simplify my business so now I just do basic 16GB RAM / 240GB option. This means I can also do machines more quickly in bulk, rather than build-to-order. Just more efficient.

Here's a meme:

FUN FACT: I *now* accept card payments for Minifree sales, vicariously through Wise; because I was stuck in 1995, I only today found out I can just make payment links with my Wise account. It's sort of like using PayPal. It's neato. And those links let customers pay with card. My website is still static HTML and orders are still processed manually via email - and an invoice is emailed to the customer. But I've started emailing customers easy payment links. ...I'm planning to make an automated checkout/shop for Minifree at some point anyway, and to generally modernise my infrastructure. My web shop: https://minifree.org/ Libreboot preinstalled on computers, e.g. Thinkpads. Libreboot replaces proprietary BIOS/UEFI firmware, offering greater security and freedom; same argument as using Linux instead of Windows. More control for the user. Your choice of Debian Linux, other distro or a BSD - I am also Libreboot's founder and lead developer. Sales directly fund the Libreboot project.

imagine my life were a computer program. i've been cutting out all the bloat. removing all of the unnecessary code, optimising everything. my life has one goal: the advancement of my own intellect, to work on interesting projects, libreboot being but one. as a result of the changes i'm making, i believe i will be much more productive in all of my works.

the big one is minifree. i've been streamlining it

  • buying laptops in bulk again, not individually. makes admin easier. less time spent.
  • no upgrades. just one spec. means i can do in bulk instead of build to order. just blast through it in a day, then sell. build-to-order is more time consuming
  • made payments easier (e.g. card payment possible now - wise payment link provided).
  • NOT YET DONE: automate the checkout process. invoices still sent manually. gonna automate that - will reduce my admin hours.
  • the automation i'm implementing, and general changes, will save me 20-30 hours weekly. the saved time will be spent on projects.

https://minifree.org/

Libreboot is free/opensource boot firmware, replacing proprietary BIOS/UEFI. I'm Libreboot's founder and lead developer, and I use sales to fund the project.

Libreboot gives you better security and customisation. As a Free Software project, Libreboot democratises the boot firmware, giving you control. It's your computer, nobody elses.

FUN FACT:
By the way, I also made UK shipping free on Minifree laptops. These come with Libreboot, my free software BIOS/UEFI replacement that I founded in 2013. It offers nicer security and customization than most proprietary firmware; it's the same argument as running LInux instead of Windows. More control to users.

Other shipping prices also reduced a bit. E.g. £60 to USA instead of £80.

https://minifree.org/

I recently also posted that I've expanded the send-in service; people can send me any coreboot-compatible computer, even non-Libreboot ones (other coreboot projects). I'm expanding that rapidly, offering MrChromebox UEFI coreboot firmware on Chromebook send-ins for example.

My regular sales are ThinkPads with Libreboot pre-installed. Your choice of Debian Linux, other distro or a BSD.

I'm fully back on track with orders now, after coming back earlier this month (I was off sick in June). Back to normal.

I'm Libreboot's founder and lead developer; sales fund the project.

LibreWolf 150.0-1 is out (upgrading from LibreWolf 149.0.2-2).

I've updated my LibreWolf OpenBSD port to v150.0-1 in this patch: https://codeberg.org/vimuser/librewolf-openbsd-port/commit/13592d957af620f8c9ebcdb7f463b8bcb48f123e

Eventually, my port will be merged in -current, but for now, updating means re-building from source. Remember you must ensure you're on the latest snapshot and packages, and latest ports from -current. My port is for -current only (for now).

If you previously installed my port, please make sure you update/recompile :D

EDIT: It compiled! See:

btw ThinkPad X280 was tested on Libreboot recently and works. I'm probably going to start offering it soon, alongside T480 and T580. The X280 doesn't take moduled RAM, unlike T480/T580 which can both do 64GB. Meanwhile, X280 has 8GB soldered RAM. But it's a nice small machine, very portable. I use one at home with OpenBSD -current (and Arch Linux). I don't list X280 officially yet, but you can like, just ask me. I do weird/custom orders all the time so just email me if you want this one.

@mechakid37 Yes. https://codeberg.org/vimuser/librewolf-openbsd-port i created this a few weeks ago and have maintained it ever since. currently under review on the openbsd ports mailing list. hopefully in -current soon-ish. still work more work to do before i'm happy for it to merge. they're currently focused on polishing for the 7.9 release, so new ports like these are deprioritised until that's done at least.

@kaidenshi@exquisite.social @MaddieM4@raphus.social i'm contemplating whether to host a package repo for librewolf, for openbsd 7.9, since 8.0 is the first stable release that will receive my port. as i said before, they'll start merging new ports again in probably a few weeks. new ports are locked for now until the 7.9 release i think. that's the impression i got anyway. librewolf is the first openbsd port i ever did.

@kaidenshi@exquisite.social @MaddieM4@raphus.social for now, you can just compile my librewolf port from source. i've been told that it won't be merged for 7.9. therefore, it would be merged for 8.0, and in the mean time merged into just -current once openbsd has fully reviewed it. they're not taking new ports in the tree at the moment, because it's locked for a few weeks. they will presumably unlock the tree after the release, which i'm informed will happen some time in the middle of May.

@moses_izumi@fe.disroot.org i mean, i didn't do that, someone else did and i merged their patche. making your own battery packs should be feasible. e.g. a bunch of lipo batteries wired in parallel for amperage. there are probably already solutions for this that you can just buy. generic portable power supplies. for a high power desktop, yeah get a large UPS (that's what i use at home and at the lab) so long as the voltages match you should be fine

@Hello@todon.nl @kaidenshi@exquisite.social @MaddieM4@raphus.social You can control CPU frequency, check apmd manual. Or use obsdfreqd (i think it's called that). Probably still not as efficient as Linux, but you can get pretty close. I use the latter on laptops, when I'm out and about. obsdfreqd is in ports. You have to reconfigure apmd to disable some of its automation; check both manuals. Or just disable apmd when using obsdfreqd. Also, I'll update librewolf soon. Got other work on at the moment. But will update the port after 7.9

@moses_izumi@fe.disroot.org the libreboot documentation needs a massive audit and cleanup, and add a few missing bits. i did this for the libreboot build system from 2023-2025, essentially re-writing it incrementally over a two-year period. that same obsessive love is needed for lbwww.git i think

@pixelworship@gamepad.club It's quite a nice machine. I use one myself (I have OpenBSD on it). Lovely little machine when I'm out and about.

@wombatpandaa I have no such plans, and I'm aware that the company responsible for Framework products has made some rather problematic political choices as of late; if a Libreboot port were to become technically viable, I still very likely would not touch Framework with a fourty-kilometer barge pole.
