I’ve been setting up a lot of self-hosted infrastructure and apps this year in an effort to take back control of my own computing, but it’s becoming nigh-impossible to find options that aren’t heavily tainted with LLM-generated code. The promise of open source and permissive licensing was that we can inspect it and even fork it if the original developers move toward a direction that doesn’t work for us… but what good is that when the code is rapidly devolving into unmaintainable, incomprehensible spaghetti? People are racking up technical debt at an ASTONISHING pace and the metaphorical bill WILL come due. (Likely around the same time that the financial bill comes due.) A lot of incompetent “developers” will simply abandon their projects when that happens. I don’t want to be stuck with the consequences of their short-sighted decisions, but is there any reasonable alternative that doesn’t involve directly giving all my data to the Big Tech companies who are creating this catastrophe in the first place?
Anyhow, if there’s a secret cabal of anti-corporate anti-LLM developers out there which needs help with technical documentation, hit me up, let’s be friends. 💖
