Switching back to a traditional distro from NixOS is a weird experience. Like you've seen the light, and a green forest, and now you have to go back and live in the depths of a cold cave, with dim light filtering in from above (that would be the nix package manager).
Context: I had to switch to another distro at work bcz of some compliance stuff. I had used Debian for more years than I like to admit, and it's a good, solid distro. But it's not the same thing. Not even remotely.
Hungarian elections are in the news around the world. This is highly unusual, so here's an informative video about the sad state of my homeland. Insane indeed. https://inv.nadeko.net/XTp45qKCYRw

The new F1 rules can't be *that* bad when the world's best drivers are giggling after the race, recounting their battles like a bunch of kids after a gokart race.
It will be a different kind of racing, yes. But there must be a way to do it better than the others, and I'm sure these guys and teams will figure it out soon.
I've started a new project on a server, where I can install R packages for the user, but I have no sudo right or nix available. Maaan...
tarchetypes is not available for R 4.0. OK, I go and download an older tarball, R CMD INSTALL it.
Next hurdle: this pipeline was last run with targets 0.10 (I'm on 1.whatever). So let's hope it runs, but who knows what other package is not the right version.
How did we use computers before nix? And why would anybody want to do this??? Aaaa (just venting)
I'd like a phone with free, ungoogled/unappled OS without having to root it. I need to run "Itsme" and other apps that don't allow tinkering. I know Fairphone, it sounds like a good - albeit pricey - option, but are there any others?
Debian potato on a 486 was my first Linux installation. 🥲 Good times...
