@donmoyn.bsky.social Authorities picking fights with younger people with some skrill and nothing to lose is how revolutions start. I guess that's just not the kind of history you learn about at Liberty University.
@donmoyn.bsky.social The Olympics is _supposed_ to transcend politics, but by allowing Make-a-Wish Patel into the dressing room to spray around cheap beer and laughing at POTUS' bad jokes, the mens' team made itself into a political entity.
To that I think we should say: suck it up; you're big boys, recognize that choices have consequences.
@donmoyn.bsky.social Also: I don't think there's a single cohort of the American voting public that would willingly send their children off to war to get killed on behalf of Saudi Arabia, for a multitude of reasons (some less charitable than others, but voting is a crude instrument that way.)
@carnage4life@mas.to Hahahahahahah I'm only surprised it took this long.
I wonder if someone's put a wager on Kalshi in the meantime for whether or not this kind of thing will matter? Or how long it will take to happen again?
@donmoyn.bsky.social He was also the asshole Trump put in charge of his first run at "stolen election" bullshit back in 2016, only to find nothing of significance and fade into the background without comment.
@carnage4life@mas.to We recently integrated Claude reviews into one of our code repos at work. It's useful, but for me at least it's about 7/10 for accuracy, at best. I look forward to the era of codified unforced errors, it's sure to be a good time. /s
@habitsofwaste.bsky.social Right? This can be done because you're a grown-up who understands that looking at the world requires nuance. I wish we had more thinkers like you in positions of power in this stupid country.
@rich@dcerberus.com Any chance you heard the episode of Do Not Pass Go with Cory Doctorow where they get into the subject of digital sovreignty, and the "nuclear" option? Good listen.
@donmoyn.bsky.social On "news" that SecDef Kegstand bench pressed something today, it's really hard to dispute this assessment. This timeline is so stupid, it's like being governed by angry tenth graders.
@gregdoucette.bsky.social ChatGPT is hyped by everyone of influence as an expert system, though, and the only way to know it's shining you on is if you yourself know enough about the subject matter to call shenanigans. It's impossible to have a knowledge base both that broad and deep, so ChatGPT et al, are typically advertised as tools to close those gaps (they're not, but I digress.)
@forresttanaka@techhub.social His studies were also laughably and scientifically too small (cohorts of 10-12 children, some of whom already exhibited symptoms of ASD), and he also bribed kids in order to perform lumbar puncture samples on them, sometimes without parental consent. Terrible doctoring all the way down.
Canada vs. USA, a study in duality: in one country, an entire nation sits down to watch the most important sporting event of the year; in the other, a small group of die-hards and a bunch of drunks still awake tuck in for a nice alternative to pre-season baseball.
@donmoyn.bsky.social I still need to read the piece but I hope there's a callout to the fact that the US economy is also horribly monopolized at this point, and a muscular antitrust policy will go a long way towards solving this problem _while also_ greatly improving pricing and competition for ordinary consumers. A Dem government that intends to stick to Bork-style antitrust orthodoxy will fail to get traction on either issue.
@mcnado@mstdn.social Honestly, do we even _want_ to get into the business of assassinating world leaders when they don't play ball? Isn't that kinda what started this entire mess with Iran under Operation Ajax?
@donmoyn.bsky.social I'd argue that he's probably worse than Chalabi by virtue of his birthright. People conveniently forget that the Shah still had secret police and black site torture prisons while he was Westernizing the country; when the mullahs took over, it was only a change in tone, not tactics.
@Chertograd@mastodon.social@carnage4life@mas.to I'm not sure about BSky but I think Masto is resistant to this kind of abuse. Sure, bots can flood individual instances but the federation has power to disconnect them, so you'd need to coordinate at scale to implement an attack across the whole service. And sure, disconnecting individual instances is still whac-a-mole, but the hammer has a massive advantage.
@donmoyn.bsky.social Perhaps he's just going to keep "right-sizing" it until he can migrate the whole affair over to Substack. I mean, think of the savings!
@carnage4life@mas.to@shanselman@hachyderm.io I think this is characteristic of anyone using AI: it's impossible to know if it's telling you the truth unless you're something of a subject matter expert, at which point, you may not really need its help.
