I only talk about movies books and politics. And shitposting as a form of artistic self-expression.

Struggling optimist. My head is full of romantic delusions about the world that reality is constantly trying to shatter.

My profile is AI generated art based on my spirit animal.

@nickofnz TFG spent $1B of our taxes to back out of a wind power deal, and then blew up the oil markets. There are crimes that get you put in jail, and then there are crimes so egregious that we don't even have laws against them.

@futurebird@sauropods.win I miss the community of voices I followed on Twitter before that billionaire destroyed it. I miss the community of friends I had on Facebook before Meta got into the business of selling vulnerable users to custom tailored psyop houses ("AI induced psychosis" but before AI). I miss the open web. We didn't safeguard what we had from bad actors. We couldn't. It was far from perfect, but I'm going to miss America.

@futurebird@sauropods.win I'm surprised that it took so long, but i actually got some dangerously wrong medical advice from an LLM a week ago. I only realized it was wrong when i clicked through to the Mayo Clinic article. I miss the days when Google would just give me search results.

@JulianOliver@mastodon.social Important note for all the people who said, "At last, free psychotherapy!" when ChatGPT arrived. When a private individual succumbs to AI psychosis, they hit rock bottom relatively quickly. What happens when wealthy captains of industry suffer the same delusions? They might take the whole of the world economy down with them.

Trump has "negotiated" for himself a $1.7 Billion settlement from the DOJ and IRS for those agencies having the temerity to investigate crimes Trump actually committed.

Really, not much different from Trump walking into the Treasury and stuffing money into his pockets.

That's "Billion with a B".

Today I got to use the phrase "bidirectional transparency benefits everybody, unidirectional is a surveillance state".

in a business context, unfortunately. Still glad I got to say the words in a context where I know I was heard.

To paraphrase John Kerry, How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for an irrational narcissist's indigestion?

I just sent the DNC an email.

If they can successfully stop any Democratic politician from sending me an SMS message ever again, I will double my annual donation.

If they can't, I will cancel my annual donation.

Let's see if they get the message.

MAGA doesn't get that when the Pope calls for peace, he's speaking from a position of moral authority, not religious or dogmatic authority. But this is a concept fascists don't understand.

Maybe we can pass an "ill-gotten gains" tax of 100% for anybody who accepts government money that is later deemed to be corruptly appropriated.

Where is the next Kevin Drum?

Kevin was instrumental in decoding California's complex and often duplicitous elections and ballot propositions. He also modeled honest and respectful debate, feeling like his online presence rose from holding his own as the lone progressive at many Orange County dinner parties.

There's a hole where he used to stand. Has anyone in California found someone new worth listening to?

Fascinating watching the people actually running the country calling the people not running the country "Pharisees," which further implies the role of Jesus is being played by a child rapist.

As an interstellar being, I think that what I like about this planet is that it's funky, and then I think a little harder about what the word "funky" means.

I think it means dirty and disorganized, but in a pleasant way. The way a home slowly goes to seed but every broken piece feels meaningful and comforting.

I'm reminded of this classic South Park episode.

on work:

Don't work harder. Hero syndrome is not sustainable.

Don't work smarter. You're not as smart as you think you are, and the junior engineer who comes after you certainly isn't.

Just work. What counts is simple, straightforward, repeatable, reliable solutions delivered on schedule.
