@tomjennings If it doesn't have to be a full-blown desktop machine, and you are not allergic to Linux, there is a wonderful article by Jay Carlson, written about 5 or 6 years ago, that will bring you firmly into 21st century board design. Highly recommended!

@StefanThinks@beige.party The funny thing is, most of them probably have standard 18650 cells in them; it's just different plastics around them, to keep you in their "ecosystem".
But maybe some day we'll see USB-C charging, hopefully in both directions. Technology exists and it is cheap.

@csaetre Thank you very much, I will print this out and put it on my stack of all the other papers I shall read some day.

@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net YESSS! They were my favorites also, especially the 9810 (the one in the middle), which I had previously encountered some 40 years ago, doing some surveying stuff during my military service, in a land far far away. It was obsolete even then, but as an HP calculator fan since my teen years, I was just blown away by this thing.Very nice to see it again.
I wish there was more HP stuff at VCFPNW. Guess I need to bring some of mine next year!

@old_angry_queer Thank you for this. Just a touch easier than designing and 3d-printing replacement pegs, which is what I would have done.

@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net Not sure what I enjoyed most: The rabbit holes, or the rabbits inhabiting them. Time well spent!

@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net My most unexpected <3 was RavenWolf's Monroe EPIC 3000 1967 Electronic programmable mechanical/electronic RPN printing calculator. Needs research/restoring, but damn, what a treasure!
