@jensorensen@mastodon.social Broligarchs tampering with the sun. Related: Year-round DST has serious drawbacks – especially if you live in the northwest corner of a time zone. #Sun #DST #broligarchshttps://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/5969260-what-permanent-daylight-saving-time-would-look-like-in-your-state/

@arstechnica@mastodon.social Broligarch billionaires can afford to provide electricity for their own AI data centers without squeezing low and middle income people. More communities arefollowing the example of Port Washington, Wisconsin which became the first community to vote down a data center in a referendum. https://www.politico.com/news/2026/04/08/wisconsin-city-passes-nations-first-anti-data-center-referendum-00863432

RE: https://indieweb.social/@tchambers/116975417338231005 I'd add that the best way to get around the Broligarch Media Complex is one to one precinct work. It was a factor in Mamdani's win in NYC. He was outspent by Cuomo but still won easily; & NYC is not majority socialist. Having volunteers go around and LISTEN to voters' concerns and then address those issues is more effective than Fb ads or TV commercials. Dems should invest in neighborhood volunteers to bypass rightwing media. FYI: FDR won 4 times without ever buying a Fb ad or TV commercial.

@tchambers@indieweb.social @WillRobinson@indieweb.social Yep, and it's been around even in pre-digital times.

@timkmak@journa.host If Whiskey Pete Hegseth, the polar opposite of Fedorov, got the sack as Defense Secretary, then spontaneous celebrations might break out in the US.

@ProPublica@newsie.social This administration makes Warren Harding look like Francis of Assisi.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Part of a stage collapsed at the Trump fair where he is supposed to speak on Saturday. This fair and the algae pond are metaphors for Trump's 2nd term. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUlXBj9-s2U

@ricmac@mastodon.social @Onmyom@mstdn.social meebo!

@hen@social.lol @techlore@social.lol Great Work! Looking forward to the official update.

@noelreports Radev is no Orbán and passes himself off as "progressive". And if he does end up with under 40% of the seats, he can't rule without partners. If I counted correctly, this is Bulgaria's 7th election since 2020. If you don't like these results, there will probably be another election in 6 to 15 months.

@arstechnica How dare somebody criticize Trump's semi-literate Brown Shirts on the internet! A reminder: As of Saturday April 11th, Midterm Election Day is just 206 days away. What are you doing to defeat Capitol Hill Republicans who enable Trump's wars, inflation, and media censorship?

@arstechnica@mastodon.social I'm tired of Big Tech ramming AI down everyone's throats.

@internetarchive@mastodon.archive.org Online petitions are totally useless. Sorry but true! Get actual subscribers to contact the publications to suggest a compromise. One possibility is a 6 month embargo on links from those publications before the Wayback Machine can publish them.

@hen@social.lol I should get a couple of extra points for increased use of ethernet at home with my laptop. 😇 Also, am looking for a good but not too expensive Faraday bag.

@Mastodon @imanijoy Yes, human-centered is good.

@techlore Good to watch – even for those not interested in the paid Brave. And relatively short but not short on information.

@noelreports They should make Donald Trump the head of Russian state media. They both share an aversion to reality.

@georgetakei Maybe JD can get Viktor to be his running mate in 2028.

@noelreports@mstdn.social Trump's so called "peace negotiators" have yet to visit Ukraine.

@timkmak@journa.host A stupid as fuck move.

@ProPublica@newsie.social Donald Trump is the greatest threat to American democracy.

@gunstick@mastodon.opencloud.lu @internetarchive@mastodon.archive.org My point was that as a compromise, they would permit articles to be posted at Wayback 6 months after publication. This way they would not lose readers who depend on time-sensitive content – which is probably most of them. Some give and take is needed to resolve this. Online petitions go nowhere. Remember the silly petition to re-do Season 8 of Game of Thrones?

@techlore I got a "Video unavailable" notice when I clicked that. Wonder why. 🤔

@ProPublica Orbán had more power than Trump in elections but still got his butt kicked bigtime in HU. But one thing concerned citizens can do locally is become poll workers. Contact your Board of Elections or County Clerk's office. I've done this myself – you really do administer the election at the precinct level. And VOTE EARLY IN PERSON if you're not disabled or too old. The convenience of vote by mail is not worth the risk. Casting a vote in person makes the process more transparent.

@noelreports Let Fico fly to Kaliningrad oblast and then use a pole vaulting pole to hop over the Suwalki Gap into Putin-friendly Belarus.

@internetarchive@mastodon.archive.org @masnick.com @mark@mastodon.archive.org @kendraserra@dair-community.social I wonder if that is just an excuse to prevent archiving. Though as an AI skeptic, I can support efforts to find a technological way to prevent scraping which could distinguish it from archiving.

@noelreports Great shots! These guys are awesome.

@georgetakei Does "dozens" include the ICE agents?

@ProPublica States need to step up their own enforcement. Let's not forget that elections are administered by state and local government. Individual citizens can volunteer to be poll workers. I've done it myself. Contact your county clerk's office or your board of elections. In some states, high school juniors and seniors are eligible to serve - with permission from their schools.

@noelreports Tisza must act quickly to dismantle the authoritarian infrastructure in Hungary built by Fidesz. The longer it is left in place, the more opportunities for Orbán's people to undermine the new government.

@andrewmelder@mastodon.online @tg@indieweb.social No one owns the internet – not even the broligarchs.

@TheConversationUS@newsie.social Damn, how do those Danish kids survive without play dates and helicopter parents?

@timkmak@journa.host Things could get far worse for Russia if Putin steps too close to an upper story window. https://www.againstallenemies.net/p/the-death-of-putin

@noelreports@mstdn.social This area, a bit west of the Urals, was where Stalin had Soviet factories relocate to so that they would be out of range of Germany when Hitler invaded the USSR. This area is no longer out of range.

@noelreports@mstdn.social Especially appropriate on the day pro-EU Péter Magyar was inaugurated.

@ProPublica When they said "God sent us" were they referring to Trump? This sounds like a Trump scam.

@mcfadden@mastodon.social Karma FTW!

@internetarchive@mastodon.archive.org Journalists should have the right to post their own work at the Internet Archive – regardless of the policies of their bosses.

@georgetakei@universeodon.com We should listen to Dutch historian Rutger Bregman about recognizing who our allies are. https://tomorrowusa.tumblr.com/post/782814098392023040/if-people-agree-with-you-for-80-of-their-time#notes

@noelreports Maybe they could use Russian knockoffs of Segways. Oh wait, those are currently being used in the battlefield. Nevermind!

@fadedoasis Sadly, being gay is still a crime in a lot of countries.

@kirschner @techlore @fsfe @pjitendra Requiring legal IDs is a tiny step from storing those IDs in a database and tracking the ID holder. I'd be extremely reluctant to use any platform requiring such intrusion.

@georgetakei@universeodon.com What product reduced his brain size?

@rstevens@mastodon.social Boomer bashing is so 2018. It was replaced the next year by demonizing Season 8 of Game of Thrones.

@georgetakei@universeodon.com Magyar led a unified opposition. In the US, liberals spend way too much time arguing about ideological purity. George W. Bush won in 2000 because of Ralph Nader and Trump won in 2016 because of Jill Stein. Those 2 bozos went on to appoint 5 of the 9 current SCOTUS justices. When you vote for somebody who can't get elected, it means you don't care who gets elected. We need to care much more.

@andypiper Which bad actor is likely responsible?

@georgetakei Apartheid Elon should have his US citizenship revoked and be declared persona non grata here.

@TheConversationUS@newsie.social A boom is usually followed by a bust.

@ProPublica What would Jesus do?

@techlore Nice, but I'm still waiting for my Firefox (v 149.0.2) to come to life on my MacBook Air M2. The VPN icon on my toolbar just blankly stares at me.
