I actually never heard of the term "4x" before as a genre so I didn't understand what they meant by it. I guess Civ is probably the only game in that genre I actually ever played, so that's why it's what I thought of.

I have heard before that a lot of TF2 servers and the "TF2 community" had become infested with troons in the later 2010s. Troonism spreads as a social contagion and can prety much infest any online game with a high percentage of extremely autisic people who never touch grass though.

(We saw this repeat like 3-4 times) As far as the story goes, I just want them to go back to explaining stuff like the protagonists' abilities, where the AI thing they have came from, what's actually in hollow zero (e.g. what is "the wall"), and how did things get how they are. I also don't like how they tried to take it into a supernatural mystical direction for a while.

@deprecated_ii@poa.st It's kind of bizarre that he thinks it was making the population grow somehow when the real connection is clearly that they stopped the policy because the population growth started declining faster than expected. You could potentially argue there is merit in, for example, a 2 child policy in America because it would even the playing field between races and slow the percentage decline of the white population. However it would have to be paired with either reinstituting the national origins act (and repealing Hardt-Seller) or just a net zero immigration policy to prevent it from still declining just from people coming in. Enforcement would also require a full dictatorship though.

@karna@poa.st I think this is why basically all clients just use it as a throw away that is used once to request a new bearer token for one user instead of reusing the same app id. You also can't do much with just an app token other than request a user token If I remember correctly.

@Inginsub@clubcyberia.co We had one that looked as good as modern good LCD displays at least, that was hooked up to a Pentium 4 PC running Windows 2000 most of my childhood. It was a Mitsubishi branded monitor but idk what the model was. It had a soldered in VGA cable though and it eventually went intermittent and I remember having to twist or bend the cable in order to fix the video signed when it got messed up. Thing was huge as well and took up almost the entire desk (typical of CRTs tbh)

@deprecated_ii@poa.st Once we see AMD, Intel, Nvidia using AI to auto generate the digital logic for their processing chips that's when the beginning of the end really kicks in. I know from working with custom FPGA logic shit at my job just how fragile and timing sensitive digital logic is and how painful it is to diagnose that they will never be able to get AI slop to avoid creating hardware with horrible logic and race condition issues. Yet they will eventually do it anyways and that same hardware will be used to run the models that generate the next generation of hardware as well. So you will get a successive accumulation of errors producing greater errors until the whole thing falls apart and you need to completely rebootstrap the whole industry by going back to older hardware and relearning how to design it from scratch.

First time I saw it I thought it meant something along the lines of the idea that "someone's got a screw/nut loose" (I.e. that post is a little bit off or crazy or didn't work or whatever). He denied it then, but someone caught a frame of him on steam typing into the URL bar and one of the recommended options showed a YouTube response email title that only is sent back to you when you flag YouTube channels. Basically proving he flagged at least one channel recently even though he denied doing it to anyone. Anyway that's why it turned into a big deal now whereas before he was just someone a few people were making fun of. TL;DR It's like the mundane mat fiasco from the past (if you remember that) but on a 10x larger scale.

@Inginsub@clubcyberia.co It gets worse when you consider this was for old machines that the only concern was keyboard input and not something like a mouse which is significantly more annoying when it has latency or lag. I would saw anything more than mid double digits is noticeable really. Also since they were working with CRTs they only had two sources of noticeable latency, input delay and processing time, but now with LCDs you have to add that as well. The true latency is the sum of all of the delays in the loop from user input to a change on the screen. Since the developer doesn't have a good way to check what kind of cheap displays the user buys, worst case should be assumed and just leave enough margin.
