C++ people don't like "raw loops" now which just proves that C++ers will find things to complain about until the heat death of the universe
also holy hell modern C++ is fuck ugly

@suquili@poa.st @matty@nicecrew.digital it's a chug name like all kinds of places have in the northeastern US. a chug name from before the chug remnants started making up fake languages because they couldn't maintain the originals, anyway
lake erie and lake michigan are also named after chug words
lake superior is the one that was named by the french

@suquili@poa.st nobody wants to be a backup plan
I had a chick try this on me in my late 20s after she gained 100 pounds and I just cut her off once I realized what she was doing. she had her chance, lots of them, when we were in high school. friggin insulting. I thought she was staying in touch because we were friends but nope, I was the backup plan since 7th grade apparently

one of the blog posts I read about raw loops said a good solution was to just wrap the loop in a function, which is a lot like a kid cleaning his room by shoving everything under the bed

that mr beast book has people competing for a measly 1 billion dollars, not so they can be rich but so they can use it to "save the world"
wtf are you gonna do with a billion dollars that could possibly save the world on a single axis let alone all of them

@not_br549@jollyville.net I liked recursion right up until I used it in a web app and it ran out of stack frames and crashed resulting in unrecoverable data loss because I don't own a time machine

@hazlin@annihilation.social it's absolutely wild that it's socially acceptable for a """programmer""" to say loops are hard to reason about
the bar has fallen below ground and is digging deeper

what meaningful new features have appeared in any software in the last year other than adding an AI chat to literally everything
what amazing new software has appeared to grab market share from the incumbents because it was just sooo quick to make
people parrot this shit about speed to market but nothing new and successful has been brought to market in software other than LLMs in like 10 years. VR flopped so hard it left a crater

apparently the source of this raw loops shit is a 2013 talk by a guy who seems kind of dim tbh and this (pic 1, 2) is the extent of his argument against them
if you need a loop you need a loop, and it's still a loop if you use an iterator method or wrap the loop in a function. you're not reducing complexity at all, but you are introducing indirection in the codebase which just makes understanding, debugging, and updating the code harder
some people argue you should use an iterator method AND a function, because, I suppose, that produces the most compact code possible. nevermind that the explanatory value of the resulting one liner is approximately nil
