it just gets.... tiring. seeing every fresh hell that a social media site perpetrates on its users put on blast on one's timeline/dash/feed *on that site*. Even Fedi isn't immune, every new stupid that Mastobro tries to foist off as a Good Idea. Tumblr terminating black bloggers, bsky's cryptic and hypocritical enforcement of standards and strikes. I'm just wanting to look at furry porn and talk nerdy about electronics or spaceflight. Sometimes in the same breath.

Engineering 100: That's a stress concentration. Why are you surprised. (Percy's wheels have Wave grousers instead, and they're spaced closer together, so should hold up better)

@andy4future @MAKS23 Space is BIG and satellites are small. anything large enough to be a hazard is thoroughly tracked and routes are planned so trajectories don't intersect. I suggest you try kerbal space program (🏴☠️) to start to understand how hard it is to even encounter something on purpose that you know is there

The outer 1/3 looks still fairly intact and loadbearing. They'll have to be mindful of what they drive over, to avoid getting too much into "Air Sand" because the ground pressure on that wheel is going to go way up. but it can still ride over rocks just fine; the spokes and support ring should take care of that much.

@Drezil@toot.kif.rocks @lynnesbian@fedi.lynnesbian.space you can still have an integer overflow in a mechanical counter. it's just more likely to be a decimal limit at rollover, not a binary one. automotive mechanical odometers were susceptible to this, as a 5+1 decimal digit mechanical counter. so you'd hit rollover at 100,000 DISTUNIT. my family has a car that's done it. our newer car has a digital Trip-O + Odometer with 6 digits, no tenths for the Odometer, just the Trip-O, so it'll hit rollover at 1,000,000 DISTUNIT
