@zkamvar@hachyderm.io Spent a while second guessing it (I make *way* less money now), but then the AI nonsense started up and I feel like getting out of software allowed me to dodge one of the biggest bullets in my entire career.
I went from making more money than I knew what to do with to struggling to pay rent, and I've never been happier.

@zkamvar@hachyderm.io I went into software straight out of college, went to a few different companies of different sizes. After a long while, left to do contracting work.
While I was getting that set up, I started drawing furry porn as a hobby and eventually a few critters asked me about commissions. Realized that drawing pornography for strangers on the Internet was more emotionally satisfying and was more interesting and made me feel like I was doing more good than all of my contracting work.

He has a sentiment, but no action. His usage is indistinguishable from the usage of the biggest Claude booster.
He's acting exactly like them, but I'm supposed to give him credit because he hopes the world will be different some day.

I compare this to tag suggestions on the NSFW galleries I post to. Good galleries allow users to suggest tags without commenting, that increases the number of suggestions and leads to better tagging and filtering.

And you're on the Fediverse, if you put out general community calls for one-off art pieces, you would probably get responses.
And there are dozens of creative commons sites with gorgeous photographs you can use.
You don't need to use an environmentally and socially destructive tool to promote your organization. You're better than that.
I very firmly believe that every Senator and Representative not calling for immediate removal right now should be tried for war crimes themselves after this is over.

@flaki @bodil (I also seriously object to his framing on democratization in a way that almost makes me angry. The early web was great because of *community*, open code was a byproduct. Mike confuses the by-product with the cause, and abandons community to pursue technology, and ultimately paints a much more hopeless picture about where we are and what we can do, and one that is insultingly dismissive to the communities that exist today. But that's a separate issue)

@thomholwerda@exquisite.social I am (as an actual adult content creator) exhausted that every attempt by anyone to raise awareness about restrictions is dismissed as scaremongering or dishonest, after we are proven right about those restrictions coming over and over and over again.
A month ago I was being told that VPN restrictions were totally off the table, entirely, and now the EU is saying "it may happen, members are not restricted from doing that."

@thomholwerda@exquisite.social Being an adult content creator online is exhausting precisely because every alarm bell we raise gets dismissed by people outside the industry as alarmism, and then the stuff we're worried about happens and people say, "well that's different, the next thing you're warning about won't happen."
I truly do not understand how this perspective of "technically the *EU* didn't say it" is helpful or informative or changes anything about the dangers.

@thomholwerda@exquisite.social and I think any responsible conversation about this - literally any conversation - has to start with an acknowledgement that VPN restrictions are on the table and that there is a coordinated push right now among EU members and groups within the EU to age restrict them.

Literally that sentence: "As the EU
reviews cybersecurity and privacy legislation, VPN services may also come under stricter regulatory scrutiny." And links to an article calling these regulations likely.
