@mason@partychickens.net @Paul_Taylor@mathstodon.xyz I have been self-hosting e-mail for myself and a few small non-profits, and the amount of expertise to do that (for like ~10 mailboxes at 5 domains) is just frustratingly high. I have to administer Postfix, Dovecot, LDAP, DNS on a VPS; implement DMARC, DKIM, SPF etc. Nothing I can't do, but it adds up, and I'm never sure if I got i right.

@mason @Paul_Taylor Open-source community has not been much productive there. I don''t really trust Mailcow (essentially what I do but containerized), and Stalwart is "open-source" but start pay the moment you need more domains. I wish there were full-featured fork of Stalwart removing those nonsense restrictions.

@rickvanrooijen @mason @Paul_Taylor I was considering migrating to it, but got scared seeing the internals. Just gut feeling. If I hear someone having good experience there, I will look at it again. Sooner or later maintenance debt of the the current setup will show, and either I find cheap/free hosting for all that, or move to mailcow or something similar anyway...

#Linux Ddesktop folks, anyone can explain to me why archive "managers" still like File-Roller (GNOME, at least some time ago I still used it) or Ark (Plasma) look like from 2000s? Why no drag&drop? Why no file-open associations consistent with the rest? Why "Extract to..." with confusing path semantics? Why not VFS mount in nautilus/dophin, via fuse? I regularly switch to terminal mc for archives, e.g. after downlaoding them in Firefox. Any alternatives there?

#RedHat (IBM) is allegedly trying to erase its own paper from the internet: "Compress the kill cycle with Red Hat Device Edge" https://web.archive.org/web/20260402155236/https://www.redhat.com/rhdc/managed-files/ve-compress-the-kill-cycle-detail-693397pr-202402-en_3.pdf

As https://www.osnews.com/story/144776/the-disturbing-white-paper-red-hat-is-trying-to-erase-from-the-internet/ says:

> It feels like Red Hat is trying to have its cake and eat it too, by, as an IBM subsidiary, trying to both profit from the vast sums of money sloshing around in the US military industrial complex as well as maintain its image as a scrappy open source business success story shitting bunnies and rainbows.

Text fragments - URIs | MDN

Text fragments link directly to specific text in a web page, without requiring the page author to add an ID. They use a special syntax in the URL fragment. This feature lets you create deep links to content that you don't control and may not have IDs associated. It also makes sharing links more useful by directly pointing others to specific words. Browsers may differ in how they draw attention to the linked text—usually, the text is scrolled into view and highlighted with color.

Unable to solve the issue easily (I tried starting backends with verbose logging, but did not see anything immediately obvious; installing the latest version from flatpak and importing config — same issue), I switched to Thunderbird. I used to use it long time ago, and got used to it quickly again. Good to have alternatives. I appreciate anyway the effort that goes into open-source software, including Evolution. Keep going, might switch again at some point :)

@ProjectJupyter@hachyderm.io How about nicer error handling in Jupyter itself? Do I still have to parse (syntax-highlighted) the backtrace visually, read line numbers to find corresponding code in the cell immediately preceding, no ability to click on the line to show that code etc? My biggest issue with Jupyter. With cells more than 100 lines, it is really tedious.
