Most engineers told him it couldn't work at the scale he was proposing. He built it anyway. They were right.
I don't know who needs to hear this but https://freetaxusa.com is pretty great. I struggle with doing taxes bc disability and it was a game changer. Do recommend
Basically the site walks you through doing your taxes. You fill in fields & answer questions, it does the math, at the end it gives you a filled-out tax form and it'll e-file for you.
Federal taxes are free, for state taxes they charge.

@jack@xeno.glyphpress.com A strategy I've heard of-- but never used-- for managing big groups is to ask the players to nominate a 'Group Caller'. This players' job is to play intermediary any time the DM has to ask, "So what do you all do?"
The players usually need to coordinate on this and instead of the DM talking it over with them, the Group Caller (*think* that's the term, this is like a 1e thing) moderates the discussion and only once everyone's sorted do they get back to you with what's being done.
That level of coordinator task *might* be too much to ask of 3rd-6th graders and I've never done it so not a rec, but I thought I'd mention.

@overholt AI is *very* expensive to use at scale, and this proposes to use it to regularly tweak the UI for literally every single active X user, separately.
I struggle to imagine how this will make money. Might eke out marginally more from advertisers.
But there's no possible way this can pay for itself let alone pay dividends. They just announced they're planning to blow stupid amounts of money to little or no benefit.
Really wikipedia? We're doing this?
I mean okay. But are you sure I can't interest you in Wikipe-tan?
Man doesn't "the days of dial-up" just refer to a specific period of time

which ended in failure
I do not need to be told it's okay to be bad at making art
The girl called me via discord. She just got promoted to manager the other day and just got her first project. She's holding her phone while walking around the house. Eventually noticed she was doing laps. She has the zoomies~
I know the last [deadly] encounter in my D&D game put the fear of god in my players bc in the runup to next game they're all talking about what they'd do if their character dies
What even is a mud room

@draNgNon Yes, I included that under 'marginally more from advertisers'. Compared with the cost of using AI like that? Pennies on the dollar.

@purple@tech.lgbt @Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange The kind of people who get to where they can "invent" and promote an "innovative" technology
generally got to that point by trampling over the rights, dignity, wellbeing, and/or lives of an uncounted number of innocent people (underpaid workers, deceived customers, people living near factories, etc).
That selects for a certain kind of person. The idea that anybody else has any right to anything they want to steal or destroy is probably a thought they're not able to have.

(I don't understand sportsball culture)

@markarayner@mas.to I checked an inflation calculator and that works out to ~$114 in today's dollars. He was a working writer so that will have been no trivial sum for him. Imagine taking a flier like that

@Rushkoff I mean one thing masto has is filters? I don't see anything on here about that new war because I have a filter set up to block related keywords. I do that with basically any doomscrollable topic. Haven't had this level of control over what I see on social media since Usenet

@taber@woof.group It has the potential to kneecap Intuit's business model so I'm pretty enthused

@Ailantd Warm. The ambiance of the scene hits better when it scans as Desert World Trope, which is conveyed more strongly by a warm color range than a cold one

@Rushkoff Yep! Filters are a feature masto has had since way back. Accessible in your account preferences under the Filters tab. Pretty self-explanatory. Only thing I'd mention is the default "hide with a warning" leaves a little bar in your TL that shows a filter killed a post, which to me misses the point, you probably want "hide completely".
Do recommend, I've got like 80 of them :D Got a firm "no doom" policy

@jack@xeno.glyphpress.com Cool! I cut my teeth on 3rd ed and I'm DMming a 5.0e / 3e hybrid game now. Mechanics and playstyles from 2e & earlier are of historical interest thing for me. I do try to know my roots.
Also it seems like doing this would select for the future Class President types

@cutesobri I've heard good things about Powered by the Apocalypse:

It uses a 2d6 roll to resolve conflicts. It's used in many games, but Dungeon World is among the best known, being a D&D-like system.

LB. Can confirm BeautifulSoup is pretty damn awesome. (As a freelance dev cuiltivating a specialization in web scraping.) I keep a python script in ~/bin/ for pretty-printing HTML via stdin that just calls BeautifulSoup.prettify()
