Heyooo, I'm Tove! I'm an old computer poker with more interests than time (autistic and ADHD). Some of the more recurring ones are software dev, microelectronics, music, whittling, knitting/crochet, reading, political science/anthropology/sociology/history/etcetc and games.
Current obsession: music (very much beginner, learning piano/keyboard and guitar (couldn't decide which..))
I am terrible at social interactions and seems to have developed social anxiety in the decade or so of really bad mental health I'm just about crawling out of. Initiating contact with others is very hard for me, so might not do it often. Also, I will probably come to the conclusion that reaching out to someone makes me a bother or annoying or just too weird, so for their sake I refrain, usually.
But will absolutely try to engage if others take the initiative! (Probably badly. Fair warning.) Initiate contact and you'll probably become my favourite person!

In case anyone's curious:
tar cf some_big_file_{1..100}.tar -L 896 some_big_file
Will create up to a hundred files of 896x1024 bytes (I think the number needs to be dividable by 8.. maybe? It kept giving me issues when it wasn't but the man pages are not very clear on this)

Almost! Looks like it'll be two weeks break this time, want to be fully restored and then let the finger rest a couple of days too.. last time I may have started practicing again when the finger was almost restored...

(I am not very patient ok?)Almost exactly 3 months since I got these shoes and I'm still getting blisters/pain (in the same two places on each foot) any time I walk longer than 2km (which is pretty regular), no calluses or anything in sight. My feet are still soft and smooth as a baby's bottom.. Similarly with my fretting fingers, no trace of calluses at all, and I'm close to 3 months of regular practice there too. I'm chalking both of these up as more potential symptoms of #eds 🤷🏻♀️
I've spent some time on microelectronics/mcu/fpga-youtube the last few days and it certainly seems as if it's even more slop-infected than the software side.. :neocat_floof_sad:

I'm guessing there aren't really any statically typed alternatives out there that I stand even a little chance of convincing my colleagues (esp the technical sysadmins) to use instead? (Obv it'd need to be an established project with stable releases. And for context it's within hpc environments.)

Huh.. so bat is a replacement for cat and eza replaces ls (at least on Linux systems), they're quite pleasant alternatives I've been using for over a year now I believe buuuut.. they are over 50M download each, the build dirs go above 1G and the final installs are less than 10M.. Fucking rust..
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people refer to Sweden/Nordics/Scandinavia/etcetc as socialist.. We are not and have never been socialist!! Don't know about our neighbours but Sweden embraced neoliberalism back in '85 like all the kids were doing in the 80s! (Led by the socdems btw) (I would be surprised if our neighbours didn't also do that then)
Socdem is just liberalism with taxes and welfare sprinkles..

Got out of bed fairly quickly today (normally I spend an hour or two just sort of lying there) and was hoping for a quiet breakfast before the construction right outside my window started, but no luck.. They, apparently, start at 7.. :(
Also, on day one of their work the cut down the last tree outside my windows.. So now I have the garbage disposal hut thingy and a construction site, soon to be pavement. Because we apparently can't have nice things.. :neocat_floof_sad:

Oh! Also! Towards the end of boot when the external screen starts working the resolution of the tty is messed up so can't actually see the login prompt. But it's not a problem because that prompt is duplicated at least four times with about 0.25s delay between each!
Maybe I should try a reinstall since I clearly messed up something, or more likely several somethings, and disk encryption on a more advanced install is clearly too much to figure out for my poor brain.. :P

It's kinda "funny" that for years now this has been more or less the norm in tech; the more you know about it the less you want it around you (not including homemade stuff, necessarily), and it's just been.. normal.
Now imagine if, say, flight engineers never set foot on airplanes if they could avoid it. Would that have been "normal" or really fucking worrying??

Dammit.. I wanted a speaker of some kind too.. not sure if I the MCU I picked can even drive a little speaker, and way too tired to worry about that right now..
Any chance someone has come across a buzzer that isn't so mean and painful? Doesn't actually need a speaker specifically, just something that can make a noise that isn't painful nor annoying.
My opinion on sandburst seems to have gone from "ew, I'd never even touch one of those" to "huh, looks kinda cosy" in a few months, and it's very confusing o.O #guitar
