"we can't allow the unethical orphan crushing machines to win ... so we need to work with the orphan crushers on ethical, responsible orphan crushing machines, or we'll be left behind"

- what "AI" discourse in the FOSS space sometimes sounds like nowadays

gah. 99% of my "restore previous session" usage in firefox is caused by Ctrl+W (close current tab) and Ctrl+Q (close application) being less than a finger's width away from each other ...

@ju@chaos.social this could definitely be less sour (all while claiming not to be sour) and use less hyperbole, but I don't think he's ... wrong? or am I misreading it?

RE: @thomas_zahner@mastodon.social

problems with OpenSSL itself aside, I don't think it's great that as the responsible package maintainer for Fedora I have to find out about these vulnerabilities over social media - because the project only filed GitHub security advisories, but there's no RUSTSEC or CVE entries for them (yet?)

@kernellogger@hachyderm.io right now it feels like Red Hat it silently neglecting abrt but hugging it close until it's dead even announcing that they no longer want to invest in it and would hand the project over to community maintainers would be better than silently letting it die and then removing it from Fedora "because it's dead"

@cassidy@mastodon.blaede.family I had noticed the quality of the service decline in recent years ... GNOME / firefox always put my location hundreds of miles away from where I actually am (though at least still in the correct country) ... still, sad to see it go

people should be able to distinguish between the snoring emoji 😪 and crying emoji 😢 right?

the frequency at which I get asked "what's wrong?" just because I sent 😪 to indicate that I'm tired / falling asleep is ~worrying~

@ju@chaos.social I agree, those parts were definitely unnecessary as for the things that relate to the ZSF, just stopping to show up at scheduled meetings and silently canceling a rather big regular donation aren't exactly "nice" so I understand where the criticism comes from (while I don't agree with the form it took here)

@kernellogger@hachyderm.io @jose_exposito@fosstodon.org would be ironic if we get nice experience for reporting kernel bugs while the tools for doing the same for userspace crashes are dropped ...

@alexanderkjall@mastodon.social to be fair, I had a university course where we used OpenMP in C and that was pretty nice too (#pragma omp parallel for go brrr) ... but yes, that doesn't come with any of the memory / race / thread safety guarantees that Rust + rayon comes with

@thomas_zahner@mastodon.social it looks like they were now all downgraded to "medium" or "low" severity? (still bad, but I guess *less* bad?)

Replying to
@thomas_zahner@mastodon.social by "downgraded from high to medium" I meant that the original screenshot you included from the GitHub UI shows them as "high" but now that same page lists them as "medium": https://github.com/rust-openssl/rust-openssl/security

@thomas_zahner@mastodon.social I'm not sure what you mean? they were classified as "high" initially but are "medium" now. so it looks like the severity for those GHSAs was just adjusted down after you made your screenshot.
