mastodon 4.7.3I have thoughts. Lots of thoughts. They never stop thinking. Never stop thunking.
If I had to identify a list of skills in high impact engineers, it would include:
- ecological awe
- intellectual humility
- respect for the complexity of unfamiliar problems
- cross functional communication
- resilience engineering
- marketing and sales
(“Technical skills” aren’t in my top ten)
Public transit apps should come with an option note. Like “hey so the transfer is a 12 minute wait but if you think you can make it and you don’t walk like a lil bitch you can try to make the one in 4 minutes. Good luck have fun bestie”
Attention: I have hit inbox zero on every work and personal email
Please clap, it took me hours 😭
Whenever I want to explain what I mean by "availability is political" and "uptime is a Noble Lie," I'm going to start by discussing these two pages:
https://mrshu.github.io/github-statuses/
vs
Even the per-component uptimes are different! And the aggregate calculation is… interesting
This came up today again on BlueSky. It’s evergreen, I think
Watching little kids look at me and get excited at my makeup is one of my favourite parts of putting on fun glam fits 🥰
There are two types of people:
Chaotic circadian rhythm gremlins who can’t fall asleep or wake up, need 7 alarms, and dread life
The blessed chosen, favoured by the gods, who naturally wake up whenever they need to without an alarm clock and are up early by default
… and they’re dating each other
One of the things that was interesting to me is that in trans circles, the hormone you were born with is almost universally associated with depression, low energy, lack of emotional expression, and so on. Which is greatly improved when you transition, and usually further improved when you start HRT.
Except one of those (testosterone) is the only one that society *also* associates with lack of emotional expression. So imagine how interesting it is to see repeatedly all the trans mascs going “I can feel emotions again!” The second they get on the supposedly “emotion killing endocrine hormone” testosterone. @dank@jorts.horse
It’s frustrating see a survey ask carefully designed questions that guide you to answer that the system is doing what it’s incentivised to do (vs what you think it should)
I’d love to see more “Is this survey useful?”, “how effective are these measures”, and “are we asking the right questions?”
Ok what is up with azure functions + application insights + opentelemetry ??
I spent over two hours today digging through every bit of docs they had and my
conclusion was “shit is broke”
I really don’t want that to be correct. I don’t even think it’s correct!
But what the fuck
@neil@mastodon.neilzone.co.uk I love how we get used to what we know, hah. I’m glad someone likes it!
@RandomOxen@hachyderm.io The space cadet keyboard is indeed the one true emacs keyboard. I love it even though I would never use it
