TIL There's a website that shows a random image of a person pointing at your mouse pointer, every time you move your mouse
Bring back netbooks, you cowards!
It's been only a little while since I came back to the U.S. and I've been itching to get to the woods to start camping again this winter. When I mention this, someone inevitably mentions the "creepy" story
You'd think I would have spotted a Wendigo, Bigfoot, or a Chupacabra at least once
Thing is, I've never had any sort of something-is-out-there feeling in all the years I've been outdoors. I mean, there's plenty out there, but all are known critters
If it feels "creepy", it's probably people
I've been trying to develop a terminal-like portable computer that's able to survive desert heat, arctic freezing, and resist dust damage. All the while being cost effective to make on a DIY budget
It's like that NASA's "Faster, Better, Cheaper: Pick 2" dilemma
So far, I'm only at the keyboard stage, but I think the keyswitch will work. We'll see after testing in my freezer for a bit, followed by the greenhouse treatment on my balcony in the summer heat
I really should be using my new laptop to work, but... anime in high resolution
I guess I'm starting a new hobby this weekend. That makes 12 this month
I need to keep a lid on these rabbit holes

It's been a while since I've been back at my apartment. And while everything is still on fire (but the sky isn't acrid because of smoke anymore, thankfully) this mess, all of it, still feels like home
From my cursory read of the docs, it's possible to run an entire ISP, all the way from running BGP, ASN, routers, firewalls etc... to web and email hosting and even user mgmt. with just a default installation of #OpenBSD
Wouldn't recommend doing that for prod, but might be a fun exercise to see how much of the infrastructure we take for granted can be implemented out of the box on commodity hardware
Just thought about it after seeing this BSDcan talk from 9 years ago

Running an ISP on OpenBSD
And that's how #VibeCoding works...
TIL There's a "Russian Gadget Hackwrench Religion"

It's a "cult" worshiping Gadget Hackwrench from Disney's Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers
What kind of an idiot thought this code was ready for production?

Sometimes, I like to think of the people running my work in production right now and think to myself "You reckless bastards!"
I opened a new set of socks and missed one of those plastic thingies that keep all the pairs together. It's now conducting asymmetric warfare on my heel :angery:
Excuse me, I was using em dash before it was an AI thing. Not playing second fiddle to some dang clanker!
The internet was supposed to be a redundant series of tubes
That works less well when there are only a few big pipes and someone's holding the taps hostage
I estimate 450 days to go through all the bookmarks in my collection and dedicate the time each page deserves
Well, the fires were mostly contained
After an evening working on my hobbies, I just don't want to be "Local Man" on the news for all the wrong reasons
Diogenes sticks a Celeron on a potato
"Behold, an intelligence!"
My new seat neighbor is a mix between chill uncle and "that dude definitely killed someone in high school, back in '74"
Why did I think rewriting my blog script in Notepad was a good idea?
It's like 15K lines :blobcatcry:
Most of the items on the list of unsolved problems in physics can be solved by rebooting the universe
When I come across a Flickr account created in the early-mid 2000s and last updated in 2019
So full of memories over the years
This whole concept of "smart bulbs" or "smart" anything in general feel like a mistake
If I want to fix a system, I don't typically visit the thing (unless they insist it's on, but the switch is off or plug is disconnected. In which case, I will also pull a Samuel L. Jackson stare on the person after "fixing" it)
"Smart" things seem like a workaround for the existing dumb electrical panels most of us are stuck with
Tempted to PoE All The Things if I'm going the smart cabin route (maybe)
"He was a product of his time"
Hmm... yes. Flesh
@Luna@meowing.zip This is probably the tip of the iceberg. As if school text books weren't already mostly slop before AI
