I have released Sentinel v0.1.0-beta.2.

Sentinel is my microcoded RISC-V CPU core written in Amaranth. It fits in ~1000 LUTs and ~400 FFs on an ice40 FPGA, and implements RV32I_Zicsr and the Machine Mode privileged spec, and passes the RISCOF and RISC-V Formal test suites.

Ready-to-use Verilog is available here: https://codeberg.org/cr1901/sentinel/releases/tag/v0.1.0-beta.2

Sentinel is also available on PyPI now: https://pypi.org/project/sentinel-cpu/

If you wish to play with the source, follow the Quick Quick Start:

@endrift The ppl who think their skills won't atrophy from using LLMs (because more time to use brainpower on only the things they immediately care about) are especially arrogant. I mean, yea, I have finite bandwidth to care about things. But at least I remember to feel like shit about it later :D.

(This is NOT RISC-V bashing. I don't know enough about vector code to have an opinion):

https://www.reddit.com/r/RISCV/comments/1229ygt/comment/jdqy5hw/

> RISC-V is very different in this respect: the best specialists on the planet are getting together to design the RISC-V ISA, and decades of lessons learned are taken into account in its design.

Okay. Then why does basically everyone I talked to, who I think are competent software engineers, hate the V spec?

msp430 Rust probably isn't gonna last much longer... I don't have the bandwidth to fix the gcc port (rustc calls the compiler driver for linking) or to add lld support.

Fun while it lasted, but not enough ppl care about the 16-bits. That includes myself at this point. It's just too much work that I'm unwilling to put in without help.

I hate how much we collectively focus on depth instead of breadth now. Now only x86 and ARM get the love.

My other projects are stalled while I do CI maintenance (and I'm procrastinating on that too). Tbh, I'm not doing too well, and I don't think a lot of my peers are either. And my living situation is _good_.

Very good day for working on Sentinel. I cut a release (don't use it), and basic Forgejo CI is working. I'm even uploading to TestPyPI now!

I think I'll have to wait until larger runners are available to enable CI fully though.

cc: @ldcd Just an FYI, the import name for Sentinel will change from sentinel to sentinel_cpu for the release after this upcoming one: https://codeberg.org/cr1901/sentinel/issues/88

If you can, I'd suggest holding off on updating until I do another release, which shouldn't be long (famous last words). That way you have time to change the import name :D!

@gloriouscow@oldbytes.space I think your stance is reasonable. I think part of my problem is that I see using AI tools to build the future as a deeply personal attack on a worldview I hold dear ("maybe we shouldn't take our knowledge base for granted"). I've found AI stuff utterly hilarious before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBHg832c_6I God knows I'm not morally consistent 100% of the time (no one is).

Ya know what? I can deal with taking a long time to be picked up by a runner. But the 10 minute limit per job is f***ing killing me. There should be a grace period because runner have nowhere near the network bandwidth that GH does. So setting up for testing has A LOT of variability (apt install is mostly to blame here- taking between 20s to 3+ minutes).
