@analogfusion@c.im @bosak@flx.masto.host @analog_cafe@mas.to OHHHHH here's another one that fucking enraged me. Back in 2010, I used to shoot a lot of C41 film. Lomography's C41 used to be amazing - it was AGFA deadstock. I bought loads of it. It was cheap and genuinely good. Then I had a pack where everything looked horrible. Too red. Checked the pack: "Made in USA". They'd changed to a totally different Kodak stock without telling anyone.

@analogfusion@c.im @bosak@flx.masto.host @analog_cafe@mas.to I had a dalliance with Lomography through an ex in 2010. They're a terrible company - very early riders of the whole parasocial relationship phenomena of the modern age. They tried to get me to organise and run promotional events for them for free because I was in a town with a significant arts uni. Because, you know, "community". No, motherfucker. You want me to work for you? Pay me.

@analogfusion@c.im @bosak@flx.masto.host @analog_cafe@mas.to Lomography's marketing destroyed the entire concept of "previsualisation", apparently. I've ranted about it before on here - and I'm sure I will again - but there is so much toxic stupidity still hanging around in the photography world because of those assholes.

I'm currently packing up my home office in preparation for moving house, and I just found this TINY Playstation 1 controller I actually forgot I owned.

It is goddamned gorgeous and a big part of me wants to stop doing this and play some Kula World or something instead.

Attempt 2 at joining #TeamHorizon, after my first one two years ago turned out to be full of fungus and completely lacking light seals and was sent back as a result.

Stumbled upon this one at Real Camera in Manchester today. Apparently they only got it in today, too. Here’s hoping this one fairs better than the last.

Oast houses are weird. I'd never seen these until I moved to Kent; the top spins with the wind in order to get the best air flow through the building. Originally hops would be laid out on a floor half-way up to be dried, but now they're usually converted into fancy houses. This run are used for offices in a hospital. If I knew how to code/program/set up bots on here, I'd create something that could reply to every single post that mentions JCH Streetpan with a single phrase:

"Rollei Retro 400S is exactly the same stuff and almost half the price - Bellamy Hunt is ripping you off."

I am not sure what I am more tired of: packing or cleaning things that have developed a veneer of mould from being stored in cupboards. Getting out of this damp shitbox after nine years will be such a relief. #GreatMoveNorth

My mum worked in a local hardware store before I was born. Even when I was a teenager, she was bumping into people she knew from her time there; regular customers who would sometimes pop in for one specific bolt, a couple of sheets of sandpaper, or an assortment of O-rings. While this is no means a new statement, every so often I am reminded that we have just lost so much as a society.

@bosak@flx.masto.host @thereisnocat@toot.cafe @AlexLuyckxPhoto@mstdn.ca Yep, this is exactly my process: leave sensitivity at 13, vary tile size from 3 to 5 depending on what I'm dealing with, and pay close attention in the Mark Defects view to remove any sections where it's trying to remove actual highlights (which it will). You can't use it on grass, for instance - every blade will be picked up as a hair to be removed - but in photos where you've got large areas of relatively consistent tones, it's an absolute lifesaver.

@AlexLuyckxPhoto@mstdn.ca @bosak@flx.masto.host @thereisnocat@toot.cafe precisely this. I would happily pay for a stand alone lifetime license for something I use daily. I will not pay a subscription for something that could disappear or change in a way that ruins it tomorrow. Now fetch me my cannon and lash the sails, we have work to do…

@tmcfarlane Hah. That's how I remember the one my mum used to work in - a real relic. It survived until the turn of the millennium, but it was gone by the time Google Street View first visited the area in 2009. The space it used to take up holds a curry house now.

@GossiTheDog @JonnyT I’ve had nothing but bad experiences renting whether it was direct from a landlord, through a trust, or through a letting agent. I will say that I spent a full year complaining to Belvoir that a crack was forming in my bathroom ceiling before the whole ceiling caved in one morning, though. That was a very impressively shit experience. Renting is the one thing that’s ever made me agree with Chairman Mao about anything.

@thereisnocat@toot.cafe @AlexLuyckxPhoto@mstdn.ca Yeah, the one in the scanning software also isn't as customisable. You can't manually mask out areas or tweak the sensitivity like you can with the Photoshop plug-in.

@AlexLuyckxPhoto@mstdn.ca Thing is, ID-11 is really, *really* versatile. I just wish I didn't have to develop six films in the space of a week whenever I mix the stuff. This might solve that problem. Have you tried Silverfast's Photoshop plugin for dust removal? It took me a bit of experimenting to figure out how to optimise it, but god, it saves SO much time: https://www.picture-plugins.com/

@OnkelBobbyWhite Yeah, there's more than a hint of SNES about it, just with the extra shoulder buttons awkwardly shoe-horned in. And it's a bit smaller, too. I do seem to remember the d-pad was a bit shite, though. That said, I was playing the Vita a lot when I purchased this, and the Vita has one of the best D-pads of all time. Everything seems terrible in comparison.

@Myphatself Not even close. I paid £8 for this box. No traditional hardware store in their right mind would sell a 4mm long M1.7 bolt for £4. Of course, they wouldn't be the same price per bolt compared to this box, so am I getting "more" for my money? Yes. But how much of this am I ever going to use? How much of it is just waste? And how much is the expertise/advice of the shop keeper worth? The hyperfixation on "lower prices" - even when they're not lower in real terms - is ruining us.

@KalenXI @Gargron the absolute best chromium-based browser I’ve ever used was Stainless. It didn’t exist for long and it hasn’t been updated since 2011 (!), but it was still the only Chromium browser that didn’t feel like bloatware. Vivaldi showed promise initially, but it’s now so over-laden with features that it feels more like an operating system than a browser. I just want a bare-bones stripped back browser that blocks all ads and AI bullshit. That shouldn’t be as rare as it is.

Weird question, but are there any #Asciimath or #LaTeX experts on here who can help me with something? I've been tasked to recreate this equation in an article online and I keep hitting a stumbling block with the "0, v < c" and ", v >= c" section. I have no idea how to get that positioned there and it's driving me nuts.

@bloftin2 Yeah, I'm a sucker for unusual controllers. I also have this - a one handed controller with the accept and cancel buttons under the "grip". It was designed so you could play an RPG with one hand and take notes with a pen and paper in the other. I tended to use it more to keep a beer in the other hand - or give Faris a fuss while she was sat on my lap during a long Final Fantasy session. One of the best gaming purchases I've ever made for that alone.

@XyphoidProcess That's the ideal setup. I did have a look to see if I could buy M1.7 bolts on their own somewhere. The best option I could find online was a sack of 500 direct from China - even less reasonable than the mixed box I ended up with. Meanwhile, the town I currently live in is so useless that I couldn't even find screen cleaning wipes in any shops in the town centre. That's what's "killing retail" (well, that and sky-high rents), not online shopping.
