Cree showed us how to create and export the zines as PDF with Figma using this template: https://www.figma.com/community/file/1628584362857577687/4-page-digital-zine-template
Then, they walked us through how to set up the PDF as a flipbook in https://heyzine.com and then embedded on a site using https://hotglue.me
Another participant also introduced us to https://simplebooklet.com and I shared https://wwwobble.org
During the breaks, they played some tunes from the Fair's playlist: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzYRI3E7hKo3sY5KC2Dcf5lcAJ0V3S1Vg

Sidenote: If anyone has good recs for an open source #JavaScript library that can do flipbook-style visualizations for digital #zines embedded in static sites: please let me know 🙏🏿

It's #BandcampFriday 🥳
I want to give a special shoutout to this release by GENA (a duo which includes one of my faves, Liv.e):

@semilanceata@mastodon.social Very cool, and I love that it uses recycled batteries! Reminds me of this Iffy Books zine: https://iffybooks.net/wp-content/uploads/zines/Iffy_Books_Pocket_Wifi_Portal_Zine_screen.pdf
Might be a shot in the dark, but is there anyone out there self-hosting Navidrome on a Raspberry Pi (or other device), and powering it using solar power?

This one wasn't mentioned in the workshop per se, but when I prerused the Black Zine Fair hashtag on Blacksky, I came across this one because of its striking cover. It's given me a lot of ideas for my next zine.
Their website also has these incredible protest posters: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/mobile/folders/1U-OV1Mx5Dj2p4RMXtOrwzOe4O9u4Ydhw?usp=sharing
The other day, my friend shared this video on consulting collectives, which is when "a small group of independent consultants or freelancers share clients, resources, and revenue on specific projects while maintaining their independence on others" :

It's definitely something I'd be interested in doing with friends of mine who've also quit their 9 to 5s or got laid off.

@django@social.coop Thank you for sharing! It definitely looks like a pretty extensive library, and I love the animation. I just wish that it supported PDFs and/or epubs.

@girlmaya Yes, I've been running Navidrome on a Pi for a few months now, and store everything on an SD card (the origin story of it all can be found here: https://vis.social/@candide/112946346765485601 and here: https://vis.social/@candide/114174971355035482)
I'm still fairly new to this stuff, and curious about solar powering things 😊

@abosio I'm in the same boat lol. I have Navidrome self-hosted on a Pi (it's the only thing I have on there), and recently saw a workshop on using solar-powered Pi's as website servers.
I'm still new to self-hosting, and curious to know if anyone else has experience with all three... 😅

@nicol I had some trouble streaming it from Peertube, so I tried to download the file to my device, and ran into issues there too... It looks like my phone's media player has trouble determining the duration.

@ozoned @nicol Yes, P2P, but the platform's settings calls it "sharing system": https://open.movie/w/rdot9DoygXTXzLM4ZnJjTf?modal=quick-settings

@aardjon That's very cool!! Thank you for sharing your experience.
Is it something you would do again?
