New release of Fern TUI notetaking and journal today with v1.2.0!
Aside from lots of bugfixes and stabilizing improvements to the codebase, some notable items were:
- New languages added, deeper translation of UI & better pluralization (p11n)
- In-app settings editor
- Templates support looping and date offsets for injections
Super huge thanks to @zygoon@fosstodon.org for their contributions with Polish 🇵🇱 translations AND Snap yaml config!! :neofox_aww: We're live on the Snapcraft store now: https://snapcraft.io/fern. Couldn't have done it without their guidance.
Release notes are here: https://codeberg.org/InodeLabs/fern/releases/tag/v1.2.0
Boosts are most appreciated and welcome to help share! Feedback is most welcome!

Nothing to see here. Just a little re-branding. :neofox_wink_blep:
The difference a name makes cannot be understated! Going from one that was like "ehh it's okay" >> smiling whenever I hear it... just :neofox_aww: ❤️
Boosts appreciated. My last FT role came from Twitter, pre-Elon. Hoping Fedi can help me find my next role! Many thanks!
I'm looking for a job or contract work as software engineer. Passions lie with the backend systems, developer tooling, open source work, and anything terminal based. I have about 7 years professional experience with Python (fullstack Django and Data engineering work mostly), along with 1 year of Rust work as well. Comfortable with C and Go(newer to latter, but really digging it!).
Strongly prefer remote roles (but would consider hybrid from US). You can reach me here or see my contact info on: https://bugwhisperer.dev/about

Launchpad: Down for several days now
Codeberg: Can't reply/assign issues (500 err)
Time to bust out CollapseOS and some 6502 chips?

Fern release v1.3.5 is out now, bringing a few stability and bug fixes since my last ping about v1.3.0:
- desktop launchers (lmk if these dont work on your OS of choice)
- emoji render bugfix
- panics (at the disco) are handled gracefully
- errors dumped to console upon crashes for easier bug reporting
That brief moment you are convinced that your keyboard is broken because most of your shortcuts don't work, for some inexplicable reason. Then you remember that you switched the layout over to Workman earlier and that you have to stop looking at the darn keyboard.
Your brain was broken, not the keyboard. :neofox_sob:
New release of Fern today v1.1.0-beta!
We now have:
- better emoji handling/support in editor
- 🎨 themes are bundled in with the binary builds
- support for UI language switching. Only Spanish and Japanese atm, sorry. Will add more in next release. Please consider helping with translations! :Blobhaj_Plead_1:
Oh and separately, the Fern user docs are live too!

Translation work on the Fern TUI interface is coming along. Hitting a lot of snags with the different ways languages structure grammar, sentences and words (some don't have a plural, gendered languages, etc). :blobcat_itisfine:
Will probably need to back up a little and rework things, so it's much simpler in order to improve UI translation accuracy...with the tradeoff likely being more work for translators to setup and maintain. :bunhdthink:
PS. If anyone knows of good examples of UI translations another project is doing I would love to check them out for inspiration. Thanks! Gracias! ありがとう!

Note: Snap releases will be delayed a bit while I try to figure out why repo changes are not getting picked up there. Brew and scoop users can update normally. #notetaking #tui #golang #pkm
