There were layoffs at MS yesterday and 3 #Python core devs from the Faster CPython team were caught in them. If you know of any jobs, please send them their way (they kind of know Python, CPython, and its internals well 😉):

Irit Katriel: https://www.linkedin.com/in/irit-katriel/

Heads up that I will be migrating this account to @brettcannon@mastodon.social shortly (assuming everything goes well). I believe the most visible thing that will happen is if I follow you I will show up as following you again from the new account.

The impetus for this was @fancysandwiches@urbanists.social

How did MCP get standardized before a location for prompt files? I'm rather dumbfounded that I can't write a single prompt file for a repo and just have the models all pick it up automatically without some editor-specific setting.

In case contributing to CPython seemed too arduous due to getting set up, I got GitHub Codespaces prebuilds turned on thanks to the PSF! Now you can get a working build of CPython and docs, all with vscode.dev in the browser, in less than a minute!

https://discuss.python.org/t/github-codespaces-prebuilds-now-available/25442

I'm going to be really curious to hear if this helps out at the PyCon US sprints this year (I unfortunately can't stick around for the sprints).

AI failed: paragraph-formatted spec using something introduced in Python 3.12 (Claude Sonnet 3.7 came the closest to succeeding; Claude 4 wasn't out yet)
AI nailed: updating a Dockerfile so that it downloaded the right file for the CPU architecture (I told it the final outcome and to update CI, it did the rest) https://github.com/python/cpython-devcontainers/pull/43

I'm basically learning to be explicit and keep the scope small, preferably something that has been written about a lot so it's "understood" by the model.

Support multi-arch builds in the devcontainer by brettcannon · Pull Request #43 · python/cpython-devcontainers

Make WASI SDK and Wasmtime work under x86-64 and arm64. Also add arm64 to testing for the devcontainer. Closes #25

I'm looking for a functions-as-a-service with a cron/schedule trigger. I have found some, but I'm wondering if I'm missing any (I'll take any that can run Python, Rust, JS via ReScript or Gleam, or BEAM via Gleam)?

@mariatta @ayharano @__Chimaera Different servers, so different permissions. Otherwise I think you would need to do some really nasty stuff for the cookies in your browser to redirect to your server in order for it to be a single click (like XSS-level nasty)

@pdebruin Just because I found 4 doesn't mean I found the best one for me. And since FaaS is a form of vendor lock-in, it isn't something I want to rush into.

@ping13 This is going to run every 15 minutes and I wouldn't want to risk my OSS GitHub Actions credits for this.
