I've spent 15 years in web performance and UX analytics. Then AI hit.

Back then, devs butchered web primitives by hand. A few overpaid experts —skilled from years of trial and error— could still patch things up with audits and advice.

Now? Devs use tools that clone bad code at scale, pile on frameworks they don’t grasp, and build labyrinths of abstraction. The same overpaid experts now chase framework bugs –not UX fixes.

Skills? Stagnant. The web? Getting worse.

But hey, I’m fine.

AI flipped the script. The 80-20 rule? Now it’s 95-0.

95% of the work gets done in 5% of the time, and it's shipped like this.

Who needs to do things well when you can trash and redo everything from scratch in two prompts?

Users.

When AI takes over both writing and reviewing code, programming skills become obsolete.

The only power that remains is that of undocumented knowledge. Accumulating key information then becomes the most rational choice.

Projects no longer meet real needs, and code is produced effortlessly—but for all the wrong reasons.

This is a pattern of organizational behavior often observed in executive careers. It constitutes one of Peter’s key principles.

AI has made it accessible to all individual contributors. Progress!

Web archeologist here. We have a markup language in the web, HTML and at some point, was also had the possibility to create long and precise description for images with the longsesc attribute. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/HTMLImageElement/longDesc

Unfortunately, nobody was using it so it disappeared because the standards are paving the cow path more than dictating usage.

HTMLImageElement: longDesc property - Web APIs | MDN
MDN Web Docs

HTMLImageElement: longDesc property - Web APIs | MDN

The deprecated longDesc property of the HTMLImageElement interface specifies the URL of a text or HTML file which contains a long-form description of the image. This can be used to provide optional added details beyond the short description provided in the title attribute. It reflects the <img> element's longdesc content attribute.

@roknrol@beige.party @ity@estradiol.city @Fragglemuppet@fandom.ink the best equivalent nowadays would be https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Accessibility/ARIA/Reference/Attributes/aria-describedby
ARIA: aria-describedby attribute - ARIA | MDN
MDN Web Docs

ARIA: aria-describedby attribute - ARIA | MDN

The global aria-describedby attribute identifies the element (or elements) that describes the element on which the attribute is set.
