Two seasons in one day.
This is my favourite spot in the village. Never gets old, no matter the circumstances or time of day.
No #Hiking but #Cycling today. Went to Stechelberg in the back of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Except for the usual tourism busyness in Lauterbrunnen itself, the rest of the way was nice and quiet. Kaffi / Kuchen on the restaurant terrace, before heading back. It was a good day on the bike. Perfect valley of course for #WaterfallWednesday as well.

Just noticed that the surroundings of Blatten has been newly measured and published. Most of the hiking trails in the valley have been opened as well. The satellite view still shows the situation from before the disaster.

I've limited mastodon.cloud on mountains.social and mountains.photos and will suspend it somewhere in the future. It is an abandoned instance with unmoderated sign-ups, no active moderation afterwards and the used Mastodon software is out of maintenance for quite a while. It has been used for spam waves in the past, causing issues across the Fediverse.
Other instances like fosstodon.org and floss.social already suspended it. More likely to follow.
In case you are following someone on that instance, please inform them that they will become more and more isolated over time and might want to migrate to another instance.
Back from a training ride into the Kander Valley. Wanted to round the Blausee, but the road at the mountain side is closed until this Friday (regular winter closure because of rockfall risk), so had to cut it short a bit. Temps are going down. Winter might show itself later today. Glad I took the opportunity in the morning hours.
And the last multi-day hike of the year is on the website! This one is with the groups with which it all started. We go on a hike every two years, so the anticipation is higher for these ones. Extremely looking forward to it.
Clive, my friend, retired colleague and overall ultra-nice guy is walking from his current residence near Zurich to Plymouth where he was born.

Just finished a pg_repack on the Mastodon database on mountains.social (sort of a defrag that you might know from the old Windows days for your harddisk, but without the cool mesmerizing little squares). The DB went from 120 GB to roughly 100 GB. For the pg_repack I had to increase the volume where the database is located on, as this process takes lots of temporary space (max double the size of the largest table in the database). Afterwards the DB is smaller, but the volume can't be shrunk on the fly.
In the first weekend of April I will upgrade the PostgreSQL software from version 15 to 18 and during this process I'm going to relocate the database on a smaller volume as well. This means however a longer than usual downtime (do also not want to rush it, take proper backups, etc). We are talking 1-2 hours of downtime (best guesstimate at the moment). Of course I will let you know later when exactly this will start.
Task for the ones on mountains.social: start planning a nice hike, ride, walk or dogsled tour, so you are fully prepared for the maintenance window 🙂

It seems that @megalodon@floss.social is finally showing the first issues after the dev announced ending the maintenance and suggesting to switch to @moshidon@floss.social. The issue seems to surface when the timeline needs to show "older" posts. As others also have the issue with the app, it seems a general thing now.
Had both apps side-by-side, so I did not have to switch accounts in the app itself. So I will now switch to having Moshidon fory main account (of course in Pink!) and Moshidon Nightly (for my personal account).
Am a bit sad, as Megalodon was my trusted companion for the past three years.

Just found @digikam@fosstodon.org as photo management tool on (not just) Linux. Finally an easy to use tool to adjust the exif data on my library.
Now I can get rid of all those wrong dates which defaulted to 2002 on my old camera when I forgot again to set the correct date after changing batteries.

@mxk@hachyderm.io habe mich lange überlegt welche Richtung wir gehen würden. Der erste Tag ist so aus meiner Sicht besser gefühlt als andersrum. Nur zur Kasseler Hütte am Tag 1 hat mir ein wenig kurz gedünkt. Mitte September is in der Tat immer so ein Ding, geht aber nicht anders mit alle Familiepläne etc. Kann super Wetter sein, oder eher trüb. Mal schauen. Auf jeden Fall gute Gesellschaft.

Wir sind nicht schlecht in Blockwerk und auch ein langer Tag wäre kein grosses Problem. Wir werden sicher mal früh starten. Wenn das Wetter nicht ideal wäre, hätte ich als alternativ ein Abstieg von der Berliner Hütte und mit dem Alpentaxi ein stück Richtung Greizer Hütte.
