@Ea5iyl@mastodon.radio @oz1lqo@techhub.social The second chip is a V20 processor, pin and instruction set compatible with the 8088 but up to 50% faster execution at the same clock speed. Of course by the time the V20 came out many of us were moving on to the 80286.

Wow, went to clean my teeth and looking out the window a buzzard was perched on the corner of the patio just twenty feet away. Just looked at me and in no kinda hurry flew away. They are big birds when seen against something to give you scale.

@simonzerafa@infosec.exchange @infobeautiful@vis.social Speak for yourself, I regularly weigh myself in stone and pounds, a little mental arithmetic to convert to straight pounds. Then of course if I need it divide by 2.2 for kg. Then again I can still convert "Seven and six" into "new" pence in my head as well. Depends when you were born I guess. Oh and C to F, and inches to cm....

I'm just old enough to remember the Apollo 8 launch which was still a couple of months away at that time. Had my Airfix Saturn V model ready for dismantling as the launch progressed.

Oops forgot to prep for tomorrows repair cafe. As a reminder based on tonight's "what's coming" email, need mains lamp components, quartz clock drives, random Singer sewing machine parts plus test material and cotton, a random shredder switch and Aspen 2 fuel (two stroke). Oh and whatever it takes to fix a vacuum cleaner.

Should be an interesting Sunday.

Of course that's only the pre-booked.

@penguin86@social.ichibi.eu At the risk of teaching grandma... You are aware that flux used in soldering, whether applied separately or as part of the solder medium is an acid? It's an essential part of the soldering process but should be removed after soldering. Any residual flux will slowly eat away at the joint especially around any imperfections. I use IPA and a stiff brush to remove flux residue. No clean fluxes are available but not usually at the DIY level.

If you're looking for repair techniques and info there's precious little of that.

@cazabon Welcome to the world of #fixing things. For me it started as "well I I've fixed a few of my own things", to "I once fixed my grandfather's clock" to "you know about clocks", to "you're the clock man". Learned things and done things I wouldn't have dreamed of a few years ago. Still learning which is what I like.
