@markgurman I’ve been doing the same thing I have done on Macs for 20 years: browse the web, write one page documents, manage a basic budget spreadsheet, curate my photos, listen to music, watch movies. Until it lets me win the lottery and not have to work anymore then I will say it’s revolutionary.

@rbreich@masto.ai Elon didn't get his start under the current administration. He was allowed thrive and use the loopholes under several administrations. How was he able to live and work out of status under Clinton and why wasn't any of the tax rules enforced under Bush, Obama or first term Trump administration; especially under California Newsom? There was ample opportunity reign him and other billionaires like Sergey and Brin.

@BasicAppleGuy@mastodon.social Those new icons are a reflection of the workforce at #Apple today. I can guarantee you whoever designed the current icons probably worked with digital tools all their life. While those who designed the original icons were likely professionally trained illustrators who used pencils, pens, rulers, and drafting tables for sketching, along with specialized items like X-Acto knives, rubber cement, and T-squares for manual paste-up. Its trade off of the digital society we now live in.

#Windows has 1.6 billion users, #Apple has 2.5 billion devices, #Android has 3.9 billion active devices. I think Apples user base might be lower since a lot users own multiple devices, sometimes even several of the same devices.

@fazalmajid@social.vivaldi.net At the end of the day, #Apple builds and markets the #iPad as a mass consumer product that sits between the #iPhone and the #Mac. The limitations intentional for both simplicity and also for you to need all three.

@leo@twit.social I agree Leo, there is a feeling of fatigue, low morale and being unsettled. I was talking to someone recently, you can't even plan your life ahead. Years ago, I would be able to plan for the future. These days, I just live one day at a time, its the best you can do.

@9to5Mac@mastodon.online Since upgrading the #iPhone 17 Pro Max, I don't even bother charging it over night. Usually go to bed around 10 PM with 32 to 42% sometimes even 50%. I usually charge it up in the morning while I showering, making breakfast and getting ready for work. By then, its charged to 80% which more than last me throughout the day. If I use up battery during the day, its because I don't have much work, which rare.

@tuomas_h@mastodon.social I like this, but I would prefer a fade effect where the content page fades into the glass sidebar. But that brings up issue of defining the separator for resizing, but maybe a small colored water drop could be that?

@tuomas_h I have been playing with Tahoe on my work M1 Max, Puma and Cheetah on my vintage TiBooks. Tahoe is in a universe of exceptional quality compared to the first five releases of Mac OS X. Design is subjective, but Liquid Glass issues is miniscule in the grand scheme of things. Are there issues, sure, but I think we at a v1 and its only gonna get better: 10.0, 10.5, 10.10, 11 were each resets that got better over time.

@tuomas_h I honestly don't see anything particularly productive about System Preferences vs Settings today. I still had to use spotlight search to find whatever function I was looking for buried under submenus and dialogs. So, thats not a great example. And if we are gonna go hard on the UI, the pinstripe design from 10.0 to 10.2 was jarring for many or brush metal Finder, 3D Dock etc. #macOS has always had polarizing design decisions throughout its history and Tahoe is no different.

@markgurman #Apple is likely coming to terms with the reality even its designers and engineers brand loyalty is not guaranteed. Everybody loves money and want more of it. The days of ‘you come here to do your best work’ while senior leadership now have hundreds of millions doesn’t resonate anymore. I just hope those engineers and designers do realize where they are going is a dead end though, but hopefully the money used to poach them compensates for it #openai #meta

You know what the litmus test for improved performance in #Windows11 Insider experimental builds? How they are perform in virtual machines? I have been using #Ubuntu #Linux on 8 GBs of RAM in a VM as a daily driver and I appreciate the resilience and performance of the OS compared to how groggy #Windows11 feels with 16 GBs of RAM.

The #MacBook Neo proves #macOS can run just fine on the A series chip. Which proves macOS would do just fine on an #iPad. Which makes me think the touch optimized macOS might not be a Mac but on the iPad. Exclusive to the Air and Pro models of course. But if #Apple’s motive is like for comparison in the #Windows PC world, then I can understand bringing it to the MacBook.

@classicweb@indieweb.social @zeldman@front-end.social Very impressive for 1995 which was the infancy of the modern web. I was such a big fan of the franchise, especially Batman Forever. I would spend hours drawing the characters from the movie poster originally done by John Alvin.

@SmudgeTheInsultCat@mas.to When I think about the fact that it takes some people 40 to 50 years to accumulate that kind of money through hard work and sacrifice, sometimes juggling a family, health and paying a mortgage then you have people who can spend easily spend that amount of money like no big deal.

@9to5Mac@mastodon.online Its likely gonna be 6.9, use a two camera system, plateau to accommodate all the components and a larger battery. Its basically be a Plus edition. Apple should also dropping the price back down to 899 to make it more enticing.

@9to5Mac@mastodon.online AOD was the first thing I disabled on the #iPhone 17 Pro Max. It actually affects my sleep having it on. The camera controls when they were first introduced on last years model got disabled this year and it took me while to figure out how to re-enable them. But I try to consciously try to use it; at the same time it feels unwieldy. #Apple should move the button up closer to the power button and maybe make the power button smaller. Overall, I’m happy with it.

@markgurman@mastodon.social I think when a new product from Apple is made and introduced to the world, it becomes so streamlined, that iterative versions of a product becomes boring to work on that you start looking to greener pastures for a challenge. For many who stick around and continue to work on Mac, Watch, iPhone and iPad year after year with iterative designs just like having a safe job.

@otolithe@mastodon.social @stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social @cstross@wandering.shop Anyone spending 3k on an #iPad is no different from anyone buying a maxed out M3 Ultra Studio when the cheapest Mac Mini would suffice. #Apple unfortunately created this problem with the introduction of the Pro line, the iPad should never have strained from original idea as being a simple device for consumption. But, MBA's at Apple had other ideas. iPad should still be the same 9.7 screen and nothing more.

@siracusa@mastodon.social This is truly heartbreaking. I often go back and watch old episodes with so much nostalgia. In fact, I remember before most episodes were uploaded to YouTube, I binged on almost every episode one weekend while babysitting. I always would have loved to see a revival of the show done the same format and aesthetic reviewing modern versions of tech. #RIP Stewart Cheifet, definitely one of kind presenter. Thank you for documenting the era. #Technology #Microsoft #Apple #90s #Computers #PC
