@carstenfranke@mastodon.social @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org maybe have a bonus fund that is also where civil rights settlement payouts come from. Don’t violate civil rights, get bigger bonuses.

@docpop@mastodon.social these are made by Huib Petersen, he lives on that block I believe. He’s a Dutch/American artist that works in yarn, cardboard, etc.

@peter@thepit.social it started with birders too, an amazing detail that makes it all laughably contemporary. There is a lot to love about birding, but at the extremes you have people traveling across the globe and visiting dumps in Argentina all to get birds on their life lists, and I dunno man, maybe we shouldn’t just be able to do whatever we want with our money.

@ccferrie@mastodon.ie @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org a church near me in a VERY walkable neighborhood does one of these drive-thru food banks. I firmly believe we need to restore other* means of hauling small loads other than “you must bring a car you can access in order to take 40 lbs somewhere”. *this is a post about #bikes

@peter@thepit.social @ebooksyearn@thepit.social yeah, that’s actually the Republican theory of valid gun ownership. Whenever you’ve had enough from political leadership, you can go take care of it yourself with your guns. They proudly talk about this all the time. It’s working out about how you’d expect.

@peter@thepit.social among other things, I manage crews that are laying cement, and I guarantee they aren’t pulling that. It’s also backbreaking work, so if you don’t make supervisor by the time you’re 35, you will age VERY quickly from the combo of heavy labor out in the sun, and working around lots of fine particulate dust. Would love to see the failsons of the upper 1% spend a few days on a concrete crew.

@peter@thepit.social teddy bears do us a massive disservice by infantilizing literally the most capable predator in our environment. The fact that more humans aren’t killed by them is a testament to their kindness and love of hunny and grubs as their primary foods.

@jef Hung Cao should go down to Pismo and see all the beach goths that live in the perpetual fog north of Point Conception. That would really freak him out.

For any Californians here, I was on a panel with Xavier Becerra once, and he was a really stand up guy with a good grasp of transportation needs of the working class. If I was a resident, I’d be working for him to be governor- a no drama guy with great command of subject matter and politics

@brianb a cool thing about (most) bikes is that every part of them can be serviced or exchanged by a home mechanic with minimal special tools. Good luck on your bike mechanic journey.

@peter@thepit.social the best investment I ever made in technical knowledge was in the mechanics of bicycles, the analog ones have barely changed in 45 years, so everything I learned is still relevant outside high end performance bikes. E-bikes are another world though, both frustrating and not standardized, I have little interest in learning about them.

@peter@thepit.social there are whole Facebook groups and websites devoted to how to properly do the aesthetics on a Rivendell bicycle. Which is funny because the founder, Grant, is famously against new technology and into things like making bike grips out of felt pads tied to the bars with twine. And the acolytes copy this ad hoc style with unbelievable devotion
