For the past few years, I’ve been working on a Hebrew font based on my handwriting. Partly this is because my handwritten Hebrew is 100% straight lines, but also because I have not had a lot of luck finding a Hebrew font that is actually legible for me at reasonable font sizes. Nikudimot are a particular problem, but unfortunately not one I can resolve. That font, Amefist, is now available on my website.

@jablkoziemne@101010.pl until 2023, gay men were prohibited from donating blood if they had sex with other men in the past year. since then, the guidelines are: within the past three months… have had sexual contact with a new partner and have had anal sex. A “new” sexual partner is defined as having sex with someone for the first time OR having had sex with someone in a relationship that ended in the past, and having sex again with that person in the last 3 monthshave had sexual contact with more than one partner and have had anal sex per https://www.redcrossblood.org/faq.html#eligibility-stds @soatok@furry.engineer

@wifwolf @quietmarc mild nitpick: Darwin never said anything about "survival of the fittest", that was another scientist; his specific thing was "natural selection", i.e. "survival of the 'hold my beer' antics-doers that didn't crash out before propagating".

dear lazyweb:

is there a modern text editor that has a reasonable AI/LLM policy?

(I am not, at time of writing, able to disclose Adélie's policy, but the gist of it is that contributors must be completely transparent about any LLM usage and demonstrate an understanding of what exactly they are contributing.)

Not that anyone needs yet another reason to steer clear of Microsoft, but VSCode now adds Copilot as a co-author of all your commits, regardless if you used Copilot. This was added silently as a default. This is some next level insanity. [contains quote post or other embedded content]

web accessibility inquiry: is there a way for me to specify how a sequence of characters should be read by screen readers?

specifically, I habitually spell God as 'G?d' (capital G, question mark, lowercase d), and I want a screen reader that encounters it in an HTML document to read it as 'God', if at all possible. this is for a personal project that I plan to make public when I complete it.

EDIT: need met; went with the Smile Lounge in Tigard.

is anyone in #PDX aware of an autism-friendly dentist who sees adult patients?

had a chunk of a molar break off earlier tonight, and it's been (nearly?) 20 years since my last dentist appt.

In the bourgeoisie, it is often discussed what is a man’s sex appeal. In the proletariat, however, it is more commonly discussed what is a man’s sex repel.

Update: I’m truly sorry for the frustration this has caused. I understand how important it is for your correct gender to be reflected accurately, and please know that we take this very seriously as well. At this time, we’re unable to make the update directly because our system pulls this information directly from Social Security. Once the change is completed with them, it will automatically allow us to update our records. Although you previously contacted Social Security, their system still does not reflect the correct gender. Please call them again and ask that this be corrected. I know this extra step can be inconvenient, and I appreciate your patience as we work within these requirements. I guess I need to contact a lawyer now.

hey folks, it's about that time of the month again. I was able to get my server bill taken care of, but I'm almost out of food—I have just rice and a few potatoes rn. I need at least 35$ to buy groceries without Walmart charging a $7 'below minimum' fee. any amount helps.

@vi_zzyzx ear defenders are not going to do shit for me, unfortunately; one of the consequences of the birth defect causing my deafness is that I hear via bone conduction, i.e. my entire skull is my ear bones because the actual ones don't have anything to attach to (per exploratory ear surgery nearly 25 years ago). which is something I will get to explain when I go in. (I don't mind explaining, since it's not a common circumstance, but it's a component of why dentist appts are sensory hell enough for me to be avoidant.) ETA: also I'm going to wait until the appt's confirmed (on the basis of if they don't accept my insurance it won't do me any good anyway because I have no ability to pay) before seeing if they can get me in sooner.
