I like to make things and do stuff, music, audio engineering, programming, open source, love for speedrunning and way to much projects.
@xenogon@sunny.garden @alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com @amadeus@mstdn.social @bloognoo@retro.pizza @ercanbrack@mastodon.online I have been in the professional recording scene for over 15 years and always have performed the same tests when working on new systems or interfaces, building new setups for studio's or tuning live systems. Always been on macOS and would not have switched myself and others over if the same tests would have failed on Linux. Take it as you will.
@xenogon@sunny.garden @alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com @amadeus@mstdn.social @bloognoo@retro.pizza @ercanbrack@mastodon.online Yes i have run the tests, which is why I put my professional recording studio on Linux and have helped other studios transition to it as well. Latency is good! Since RT patches are in the mainline kernel, total system latency is even outperforming windows and macOS due to actual realtime thread management, and rock solid.
Had a nice recording session last week for a new Slam Metal band. Entire production on #bitwig using #Linux. Worked perfectly with their #RME Digiface USB without any driver install needed. Even less work than on macOS where the driver install is a multi part process. Love the #Kali LP-UNF's as my traveling setup for an extra pair of 'known' ears to A/B between! #audioproduction
My favorite thing about having #3DPrinting in my Arsenal is being able to just come up with solutions quickly. I needed a way to hold some common sound design tools together. Used the 10 Inch rack format that had gotten popular in recent years, made a custom mount for the GAP 73 preamp, and got creative with fitting it on the Centauri Carbon. Filament used are scraps of PLA+ I had around.
The nice thing about working on my own #audioplugins on Linux, is that whenever I find something that does not have a decent option yet, It provides an opportunity for me to fill that spot. The downside is that projects sometimes get pushed for another one takes priority..... Welp, I will have a bunch of stuff to finish up now.
@zuggamasta@merveilles.town Well you already have your drummer and audio engineer playing this kind of stuff 😜❤️ just say when
Reused an old tweeter from a broken powered Philips hi-fi monitor from the 80s as a Microphone! A bit heavy on the 1k but with a bit of EQ (might add an active filter in the future) it's pretty cool. Might use it for some @theonlywaveforms@mastodon.social projects. #DIY #Microphone
Sometimes the grind means coding for hours, sometimes it means knot tying and woodworking. I have been cooking. Project April is in full force.
Putting the dots on the I on this little sidequest. Very soon @theonlywaveforms@mastodon.social #DRMFree #Plugin
@zuggamasta@merveilles.town I know its traditionally a DAW controller but the Faderport might be quite nice for what you do? Motorfader, rotary knob and plenty of buttons to remap
This is going to be an interesting couple of weeks. I hope I am not going to regret saying this later, but I am doing a lot of projects in the coming weeks with the goal of pushing them all over the finish line.
Lets hope this will work out. So far excitement chilling with anxiousness on the front row. April needs to count.
What does NodeJS, the SM7B (microphone) and Unity (game engine) have in common? They are like duct tape, sure you can use it for anything but any proper solution will always be better in every situation ever. Pick the right tools for the right job (not these 3 😉) and don't fall for marketing.
