That said, I feel like there's a significant overlap between the set of people who want to read academic papers and the set of people who find the idea of cold emailing a stranger about their work cripplingly anxiety inducing.

Also, the actual authors of academic papers don't make their money off of people subscribing to journals, so they're often happy to share their work with curious people.

It was frustrating though, because she was like "You need to forgive" and gave me all these resources about how forgiveness is something you do for yourself, and then when I was like "how do you do it though", every answer I could find was like "well you stop feeling bad".

I used to have a therapist who told me I needed to forgive my past abusers in order to heal, but she couldn't tell me how to do that or what it meant, which was very frustrating. Whenever I hear someone use "death metal" to mean "metal" or surrounding genres, it reminds me of when I would mention bands to my grandmom, and her default response was "Are they acid rock?" This was, to my knowledge, not a bit.

Also, resentment, anger, and guilt are all emotions you can feel without actively "holding onto" them.

You can prevent yourself from forgiving by actively holding onto resentment or torturing yourself with guilt, but if you stop doing those things, that doesn't mean forgiveness happens immediately, you know? It just clears the way for forgiveness to take place.
