Still happy numb from the time in #Spain last week. And thankful to the weather gods. A massive dark dark thunderstorm at 3pm here in Pittsburgh, but I'm in my screen soaking in the memory and magnificence of the view from the hilltop after the short impromptu hike that morning in #Donostia San Sebastian
(I might frame this one)

Tonight's fine #Movie - thanks to Kid2 who's seen it a number of times now and wanted to watch it with me, + kid1
Excellent movie!
A touch violent and some gore, but a great watch!

Fun afternoon doing a workshop - #KitchenChemistry and other #Chemistry demos and activities - this time for teachers. Not all were even #science teachers - one was Art and some were 2nd grade or elementary school teachers. Made hand sanitizer, explored heat and conductivity and microwaves and energy, and associated concepts of wavelengths and color. Then hydrophobicity and emulsions and #chocolate mousse!

The magenta purple bougainvillea are so so vibrant! But then so is everything!
Miss the Bougainvillea - so much of that growing up in India.

This works in relatively small classes (≤ 20) and even if a fair bit more work for me, I'm happy/satisfied with the students learning - and so are students with their grade (and learning). I do make them write (as an assignment; satisfactory if any/whatever submission with all Qs answered) a self evaluation towards the end of the class, assessing pre and (almost) post course learning.

@3janeTA@beige.party @somcak@beige.party @PhoenixSerenity@beige.party raw and cooked are very diff. Raw is ripe and sweet. The cooked stuff is totally unripe and starchy - needs to be cooked. Similar situation with plantains.
The seeds are great too - boiled and dried (after taking off membrane) then cooked

@belehaa@wandering.shop one of the best things I did starting in 2019 was to move to an upgrading system/policy with suggested/flexible deadlines on assignments. Assignments are graded as satisfactory/unsatisfactory with feedback and opportunity to resubmit (if initial submission was within suggested deadline or close). Final projects allow for students to pick relevant topic and also to a large extent format.

Taco spot #3 of trip for dinner tonight. Decided to walk 15 mins or so to it rather than a restaurant as we had a late lunch post Teotihuacan trip.
Los Rogacianos de la Roma turned out to be a street stand next to a big tree. Some terrific suadero tacos and al pastor was delicious - campechano as well. 🔥 Salsas! Kid2 enjoyed her suadero torta - and we took one back for Kid1 (and that did get her to feel better). Ah eating in the streetlamp light!

Three days since our last #Tacos 😱
Ending that dry spell with Sunday morning barbacoa tacos from specialist I was alerted to at dinner last night. They set up Sundays only. I got there just before 11am (gets super crowded past Noon) and fortunate it's less than 2 blocks away from our rental. Very very good barbacoa - I only got the regular/soft/suaves not the deep-fried/dorados, and opted for salsa rojo (+ a bit of the pasilla).

Tonight's fine if late dinner... #Tacos again, Don Frank again - only because we got late chatting with friends, and at 10:46pm that was a 5 min walk option 😭
Saw a lady making something with masa on the griddle - confirmed it was sopes & tried one (campechano; mixed grill) shared with partmer. Kid2 managed only ½ a bistec torta there even if she was happy with the burnt crisp cheese in it.
Hopefully after this late eat, sleep won't be an issue for the 8:30am head out tomorrow

So astute of you! Indeed after the late late lunch of 🌮 at Los Parados (see 👆🏽) and then the long walkabout with some friends, a bit of rest in the apartment - we the headed out to the nearby outpost of Taqueria Don Frank.

We. got. all. the. 🌮 (Or almost - we'll be back)
Too full but when our charming friendly waiter showed and extolled the desserts we got 2 - the cajeta and the strawberry with cream - and oh the actual was so much bigger.
Outstanding dinner!

This afternoon's fine libation. Pretty darn good for the price! (I skipped the much more pricey Dassai Blue 23). Dassai few I've had before were good, I daresay this Dassai Blue (brewed in US with US grown Yamada Nishiki rice) 50 version is better. Touch sweet and not as crisp (even as the nigori from yesterday 👆🏽), definitely cantaloupe/melon + touch of 🍍 in the not quite sparkling but definitely bit of pressure/pop in the bottle.
Quite a US made #Sake lineup

@somcak@beige.party @PhoenixSerenity@beige.party it's terrific - though if you don't like it (smell) that's ok. People either dislike or really like (I haven't come across ambivalence). The ripe stuff can have different textures depends on variety - some are softer, slimy and some are more firm.

@LifeTimeCooking@mastodon.au bottle masala is a very Bombay, Maharastrian thing (as far as I know). Superseded by packet masalas. Kitchen King masalas are related.
I think there's a recipe for bottle masala in Michael Swamy's cookbook - My East Indian Kitchen (something like that - I'll check once I'm back home)

Not sure how well/widely this is known but with the 1667 Treaty of Breda the Dutch gave up claim to New Netherlands (New Amsterdam and current NY, NJ and Manhattan) mostly for the tiny island of Run (Pulau Run; 3 km length by 1 km width) in the Banda island group - that was the only place those days that nutmeg grew.
