Bad opinions, cartoons and videogames. PhD in Earth and Planetary Sciences, some clays, some lithium, mostly nothing.

Certified rare "casual linux user" I have devolved to computer idiot.

@florisbiskamp@mastodon.social @aesthr@wandering.shop copy from one spreadsheet, go to a second and delete a section before pasting... Whoops, broke the clipboard, better go copy that again. Gets me several times a week.

@Daojoan indeed, many men are falling behind, and the problem is other men.

@jilleduffy I mean, I have used a Point of Sale system and I would certainly describe it as a POS.

@ArcanePigeon@mastodon.social I was on a dead comedy forum, posting in the webcomics thread when Loss arrived. It has been so long, almost 2 decades now (?) and I still see new Loss content. I feel like Buckley and CAD are long forgotten, but loss survives.

@EricFielding @FluentInFinance The liquid electrolytes make fires worse by being very flammable. One of the reasons battery fires can be so hard to put out. That is something (some) solid electrolytes can help with.

@fj I am jealous. I live in a US city and work in an office and I swear one in eight of the bankers/office workers in my building drive one of these. The parking is a nightmare. We have a ton of compact spots and these people will just take two. I doubt any of them actually NEED the capabilities of these things either.

@cmconseils@mastodon.social I agree except for the last one, maybe you are better moving every few years from a purely professional point of view, but honestly I will not do this. There are good reasons besides cash to keep one job. This one in particular just feels very tech-sector specific.

@danilo@hachyderm.io honestly, I like my auto makers being slow to react and rollout for trends. I want reliable tech that has been put through a lot of review... The scary thing is that this made it out at all. All this review should have killed it, and it is a bit damning to release this at all.

@bagder@mastodon.social "Big AI" needs to sell them that way, because only deskilling and downsizing the workforce could justify the scale of investment right now.

@FluentInFinance I always doubt company stats until I see the thing on the road, but to be fair, I have not seen a deep dive into these claims. As for fast charging, you can charge any battery at a crazy high rate at least a couple times haha Always excited to see battery tech progress, but I take anything in a corporate press release with a grain of salt

@grumpygamer@mastodon.gamedev.place I know this isn't the best place to promote a product or build a following, so I get it... But I *like* it here. I like the model (even if I am still on Mastodon.social) and it just feels different from so much of social media.

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social Complaning about this is one of the biggest red flags I can imagine, especially in a workplace. I have had people tell me several times how 'it makes you reconsider having a one on one meeting with a woman' and what?!

@davidho@mastodon.world I decided not to pursue academia after my PhD, and have at times regretted it, but I would likely have been at the end of my second postdoc right now and completely and totally screwed. (If I even made it that far as a researcher) I started my PhD as Trump's first term started, and I was worried at that time. It is nothing compared to now.

@gregeganSF@mathstodon.xyz This is what I have always been concerned with and is why I have never used any auto-complete, well before LLMs arrived. It doesn't even need to be insidious, we instinctively pick up cues. Every time Microsoft re-enables auto-complete on my Outlook account, I can feel my writing change until I diable it. Maybe my writing could change for the better, but if I do not like how AI writes, why would I want to be influenced by it? That said I also do not trust these companies at all.
