@falken@qoto.org @pluralistic@mamot.fr The thing is, as most paper companies figured out a long time ago or they would have done this, is this is a nondurable consumer product that must function 100% correctly. Anything fancy and you have toilet, wastewater lines, or septic system clogging or an inability to absorb what it is supposed to, and the consumer of any class will go back to the normal product which has plenty of options. Ironically one product you can't enshittify is the one that cleans it up.

@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io The part that bewilders me is NSF money often fed research that ened up being free R&D for large corporations and startups , and those sectors are not screaming in objections

@atomicbird@mastodon.social I think I am at the point that the only reason to go to WWDC is the chance Tim Cook would be on stage and we could boo him.

@mattblaze@federate.social take solace that you aren't a nurse having to do that every day for every patient/resident/student with medical records.

@BoydStephenSmithJr@hachyderm.io @pluralistic@mamot.fr good point, and I still think that the switching costs are so insanely low as you can't lock in a customer to using the product. At best you can change a scent and market to a specific demographic.

@marcoarment Apple was not fast enough on the Apple generated content and even slower on the tools to make content. I’d still like to see a better 3D image handling system as part of Xcode, or a inexpensive stereo camera that just works.

@idyll@c.im @danirabbit@mastodon.online and well-heeled travelers are often Republicans. This puts a whole class of people who didn’t get exposure to ICE right there in their face.

"The rich just don't buy enough stuff. There's a limit to how many Lambos, Picassos, and Sub-Zero fridges even the most guillotineable plute can useful own."
I've often looked at this from the other side. the Toilet Paper Objection to Trickle down theory. There's only so much toilet paper any one human of any class status can use to wipe their backside.

@sarahtaber@mastodon.online As far as food science (well outside Microbiology) is concerned, I learned a lot from Harold McGee's books. A lot more people should know more about food science . After working for several small Mexican chains and they exploiting case hardening in fried ice cream, I hadnt thought about case hardening quite this way before in production scale. Thank you for the lesson!

@Daojoan@mastodon.social wonderful and comprehensive piece. Indeed, we as a civilization have a huge problem with setting aside the sacred many ways: betting being only one.
