@sadrarin Hey! I don't speak Spanish so I'm reading via translation, but the df vs du mismatch is a classic Linux trap. First, ignore tmpfs, that lives in RAM/swap and doesn't eat your physical SSD space. Usually it's one of two things. Either you deleted a massive log file but a service (like docker or systemd) is still holding it open. Try running sudo lsof +L1 to see if there's a ghost file taking up those 45GB. If you find it, just restart that service. If it's not that, you probably copied data into /media before mounting your network drives over it. du only reads the current mount, but the data is still hidden underneath in your root partition. Do sudo mount --bind / /mnt and check inside /mnt/media, the missing 45GB might be sitting right there. Good luck!masto.sadrarin.com

The corporate hijacking of open source is complete. We’ve watched a masterclass in parasitism: companies build an ecosystem on a decade of free community labor, and once it's standard... they pull the rug.

From the IBM/Red Hat betrayal and the Redis "Source-Available" disaster, to Canonical turning Ubuntu into a walled garden.

I just published my full analysis on the corporate bait-and-switch playbook, and why moving to source-based distros like Gentoo is our last defense. It's time to take back our silicon. 👇

The consumer GPU market isn't in crisis; it's in an undeclared "End of Life" phase. NVIDIA is deliberately starving the AIB supply chain (partners like MSI and Asus) to divert all of TSMC's silicon to AI chips for data centers, where margins are obscene.

MSI just declared 2026 will be a supply nightmare and is cutting production. They're closing the ecosystem. PC gaming and independent builders have become a nuisance for Jensen Huang's balance sheets.

I'm compiling logs and market data for a complete autopsy of this commercial architecture. I'll post the full video on my channel. The era of x86 and affordable consumer hardware is coming to an end under the blows of the CUDA monopoly.

[Status Update] - The breakdown on the death of x86 is live. ☠️

Yesterday I mentioned I was compiling a deep dive on the x86 architecture and its physical bottlenecks. The deploy is done and it's holding up.

I went straight to the point: no fluff, just pure register spilling analyzed line-by-line on Godbolt to show exactly why a 50-year-old design is suffocating the industry. If you want to see the hardware gasp for air on a trivial loop, here's the dump.

@sadrarin Awesome! The hidden mount trap gets the best of us at some point. Glad the bind trick worked and you got your space back. Enjoy those 45GB!

@elkcityhazard@indieweb.social Man, drop ReaStream on Linux, you don't need it! That's a Windows workaround. The modern Linux way is just using PipeWire. Set Reaper's audio system to JACK (PipeWire handles JACK natively now), and in OBS add a JACK Input Client. Then install a visual patchbay like qpwgraph or Helvum. You literally just draw a cable from Reaper's master out into OBS. Zero latency, no plugins routing network IPs. Your 8-year nightmare is over!

The hardware market isn't just broken; it's infected.

Right now on Amazon, there's a fake "RTX 5080 FE" listed for €1,499.99.
The product photo? Literally a piece of cardboard thrown on the floor.
The part number in the description? It belongs to an RTX 5090.

This is the absolute collapse of retail moderation. Billion-dollar platforms are outsourcing their security to mindless bots, letting scammers freely feast on people's FOMO and desperation. We've hit rock bottom.

Keep your eyes open and stop clicking "Buy Now" blindly.

It’s baffling how much processing power we have today (Intel Ultra 9, AMD AI PRO), yet most operating systems treat the user like a child. We have supercomputers on our desks, and the software actively fights us to keep control.

Thanks to Nvidia for breaking the market chain and in the meantime Jensen Huang is playing with his robots worldwide resellers are starving for missing products. But it's not enough...last night their own f**king proprietary driver update (v. 595) triggered a fatal kernel panic on my Gentoo main rig. The display server is completely dead, the machine is in a coma

I pushed x86 with a simple test: 24 live variables in a loop.

Result?
- With -O2: spills everywhere
- With APX: fewer spills, same fundamental problem

My next Rational Tech video isn’t about performance.
It’s about the architectural limits of x86 — and why we still can’t walk away from it.

Stay tuned.

I'm spinning up the environment for the next deploy on YT. If you thought the software side was a mess, wait until you see what's happening at the silicon level. We're about to attend the funeral of an architecture we've taken for granted for decades.

@elkcityhazard@indieweb.social Glad to help out a fellow McCall! PipeWire is pure magic once you get used to it. Enjoy the zero-latency mixing! By the way, if you like no-BS tech talk and Linux workflows, check out my YouTube channel 'Rational Tech' sometime. Cheers!

"My favorite angry FOSS purist on YouTube (the guy who previously dropped a 'Fuck systemd' on my channel) just commented on my new Cal.com disaster video: 'Only TRUE [FOSS] licenses are gpl/lgpl/agpl v3'. 😂
The clash between pure Open Source philosophy and commercialization is wild right now. Where do you stand?

Nothing humbles you quite like installing an Arctic Liquid Freezer III on an MSI MEG Godlike. The clearance between that massive pump and the VRM heatsinks is measured in micrometers.
Also, friendly reminder to anyone using contact frames: ditch the microfiber cloths under the motherboard. Static discharge near the socket SMD capacitors is a silent killer. Use the factory anti-static foam pad.

What’s the most stressful cooler installation you’ve ever survived?

Finishing the final render for today’s video. It’s a deep dive into the corporate licensing trap currently burning the open-source community. Dropping at 14:00 WEST. Time to stir the pot.

Just finalized the display routing for the new workstation. Pushing true 80 Gbps (UHBR20) for dual 4K/240Hz without DSC is a logistical nightmare. Copper DP2.1 cables at 2 meters are practically gas pipes. Finding proper AOC (Active Optical) is the new holy grail.
