I showed native R compilation on #iOS last week. Shipping it is another story (thanks, GPL). This version uses #webR 's #WebAssembly build instead. Different tradeoffs, but this one clears App Review.

@fdroidorg @druedin It's not open source as we're just wrapper the webR binary without direct modification/compilation. Think of it like an editor. It's unlikely to be open source in the near term. So, likely not a good candidate for fdroid. Sorry!

@druedin@sciences.social On macOS there's no single "Rtools" equivalent we can bundle. C/C++ compilers come from Xcode CLT (large, can't redistribute, and OS-specific) and gfortran is a separate install (but we can bundle it).
The good news: most CRAN packages install as binaries with zero toolchain needed. Source compilation works too if you have Xcode CLT installed & gfortran as we have a redirect to the portable library/ directory.
