The husband person has been painting. Started with the Hi, continued with the Ayuup, and then I requested a unicorn saying Hey. Makes my little computer corner happy.

Sleepy kitty. Who was not so sleepy at 4am.

It’s a hard life being a cat.

Mother’s Day. My kids remembered by themselves for the first time since I became a mother a few more years than I care to admit ago. It was lovely. And then everyone left me alone for the day so I could read and drink tea. Perfect day.

@mayintoronto@beige.party I filled this in a bit ago. Most of my answers were essentially don’t expand the airport.
If you are looking for cute fidget things then take a look at Britt Builds on Etsy. Really cute, well printed and put together, and affordable. Mine came really quickly and were well packed. Best of all, they are made in Canada!

@stephanie@ottawa.place @mariellequinton@ottawa.place @zazzoo@mstdn.ca it’s in the oranges out here too. And it doesn’t feel nice to be outside. Wasn’t there discussion about how the new Canadian air index isn’t actually very good. Or was that the Ontario one. Either way, it smells gross, feels gross, and I’m not going outside again today.

If anyone has bank recs in Canada for a young adult, please let me know. Maybe one that won’t close the account without warning because they were overdrawn for 2 months.
The big 5 Education unions sent notice to bargain today and had a joint press conference. It is a positive start of hopefully a much closer relationship between them this round of bargaining.

@syntaxseed@phpc.social teachers don’t like ai because the kids are using it to cheat, but they love using ChatGPT to write emails for them. They assign shit assignments that use the “art” ai. Or one they love is to compare how an LLM did on creating a timeline in the name of media literacy.
It doesn’t help that it’s coming down from the boards either. “Use this great tool to create your tests and slides! You’ll have far more time to spend with the students!”
There has been no thought into environmental impacts, or hallucinations. It’s bleak in education right now.
(Sorry. Rant over)

You can also recommend credit unions too. I’ve been with my bank for 20 years and although it will be annoying as hell to change, right now I’m pissed and motivated after how they’ve treated my kid.

@Cassandra@ottawa.place The trying to find a time to go onto the websites to find a COVID vaccine and booking it when I would have a day to recover (ie at Friday evening or Saturday) took a lot. Then when we finally got our last ones at a pharmacy, the pharmacist questioned why we were masking and essentially berated me for not getting it in November. He then rolled his eyes when I said at least I would be covered for the summer wave. I really missed the OPH clinics. So easy to get to, no booking in advance, and caring staff. @wordstitcher@thecanadian.social
The Province Wide Day of Action is next week! April 29th wear purple (or red) and show solidarity to education workers and teachers across Ontario. AEFO, ETFO, OECTA, OSBCU and OSSTF are organizing and fighting for education together!
So it looks like Dougie is taking an extended break and is shutting the Ontario legislature early - ie today. The day before OSBCU is set to request the start of bargaining.
They've spent just 29 days in the legislature this session and have rammed through countless shit bills without giving adequate time for public input, proper committee hearings and all the rest that should go into passing bills.
But that's what you get with first past the post and majority governments.

I really hope Jeff Leiper does a lot of work out in the suburbs for his mayoral campaign. That’s where it Sutcliffe dominated and won last time.

If anyone is looking for fun gifts in the UK (especially people of the Midlands), take a look at Dukki gifts. It’s a small business run out of their house. They design and make (most) of their stuff in their back garden shed. And they are big LGBTQIA+ allies all year long.

@rudy and scallions/green onions are called spring onions in the UK - which is still something I have to remind myself when talking about them to Canadian people. They look at me funny when I say spring onions. @JustinDerrick @mayintoronto

First cuts at TCDSB have happened under their “supervision” laying off 77 CUPE 3155 language instructors basically wiping out the local. No more language learning during the week.
