@W_Lucht@mstdn.social I remember. We did the same thing in our AP physics class. We lived close to the thorium reactor in Hamm, and they used the fallout to cover up an incident in the THTR. That’s when we learned that you can’t trust the nuclear industry even if it would be possible to safely operate nuclear plants. The temptation to cut corners is just too strong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THTR-300

Findus is sad because he has a double ear infection (again). Darn you spring and the allergies that come with it.

¡Hola! Der heutige #Tassenfreitag kommt aus Puerto Rico. Die Tasse ist ein Souvenir von unseren Flitterwochen. Schon ganz schön lange her.

Well, that was a lovely night. My wife’s in Huntsville, AL for a FIRST robotics competition. I had an old friend over for some cheese, crackers, and some good wine and a couple of episodes of the Bob Newhart show. After all these years, it’s still quite funny. Really timeless comedy.

@ildiavolorosso@sfba.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr We have a wonderful independent outdoor store here in Lexington that really helps with discovery of this stuff. They really know what they’re talking about. I buy from them as much as I possibly can, which, given the quality of the stuff they sell, unfortunately isn’t that often. https://jhoutdoors.com

@encthenet@flyovercountry.social I get your point. That’s why I definitely prefer physical tokens like YubiKeys. The one with USB-C and NFC really works nicely even on phones. And you can protect them with a PIN so a physical loss is also manageable as long as you have a second one in a secure location.

@ildiavolorosso@sfba.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr I realized that when I suddenly had to replace my backpack way earlier than I used to. Looked around, switched to Osprey, and never looked back. Awesome quality. Had mine for 5 years now and it still looks brand new. No wear and tear at all. Gifted one to my wife, same story with hers. https://www.osprey.com

@phildini I use gitolite with SSH public keys only. In this scenario, a commit with a specific user ID is essentially proof of identity, so signing is kind of useless. Signing off on a commit indicating approval is a bit more useful. So in my opinion signing commit only makes sense in scenarios where access credentials not necessarily provide identity (e.g. username/password).

@encthenet@flyovercountry.social You can use Passkeys with 1Password, independent of iCloud. I’m sure other password managers also have that feature. Or you can do what I do and use physical passkeys like a YubiKey. And passkeys were never meant to be a 2FA. The FIDO2 protocol still allows for 2FA, though.

@pancake@infosec.exchange According to IEEE 754, that’s just the difference between a quiet NaN and a signaling NaN. No idea why both platforms would handle that differently by default, but I think to get reproducible behavior you’d have to explicitly configure the FPU before you try to take the square root of a number smaller than -0. So I would not depend on it in any kind of portable code. Interesting behavior, though.

@partim I'm just looking at the product page. If you can, try to hook this thing up to a Windows machine or a Mac and try so set the gain levels manually with the Vocaster Hub software and play around with the compressor a bit. If you have something that works, re-plug it into your Linux machine and hope the settings stick. I've had to do something similar with an RME sound card once.

#ThreeGoodThings

  1. Our group of #UKY College of Engineering capstone instructors received an NSF grant to create a cross-disciplinary capstone pilot program.

  2. Finished the #DesktopExplorer game. The ending was not as dark as the rest of the game. Great experience.

  3. Stuffed tomatoes with tomatoes from a local produce stand for dinner. Yum!

@bob_zim@infosec.exchange @encthenet@flyovercountry.social FIDO2 and Yubikeys are asymmetric. Yubikeys are just physical implementations of passkeys (they can store symmetric credentials as well, but that’s not the main application). Storing a salted hash on the server mitigates the break-in risk, which is further reduced by 2FA, but yes, strong asymmetric credentials are the best choice. Compromising every holder of secret keys just doesn’t scale.

@lindsey@recurse.social Well, as they say in software engineering: “Version control cannot replace bad project management". The best way to avoid merge conflicts is to clearly communicate who is responsible for what part of the shared code/document.
