Average guy. Works in IT (jack of all and master of none). Wears a uniform to work (that's all I'll say about that). New to Linux, Degoogled Android, and F/OSS. Friend of privacy and security.

@protonprivacy@mastodon.social Am I missing something? Why I would reserve an account for my kids now just to sit on it unused for years, when I could just wait and create one they need it? I just don't get it.

@harib_murshidi@mastodon.social @corbet@social.kernel.org I guess there is that risk. But in my case I prefer not to use fingerprint as an unlock feature so it would be easy for me to develop good habits around it. In fact, I should be receiving two Yubikey Nanos in the mail today My multifactor authentication will be combo Yubikey (something I have) + PIN (something I know). Combine that with a fingerprint initiated phone wipe and I'll be invincible!

@corbet@social.kernel.org GrapheneOS should incorporate fingerprint unlock as a method of initiating the "duress code". That way, you can just continue telling them "No. Stop. Don't." and when they press your finger on the screen anyway it will be 100% their own doing. Side note: I can only imagine saying it with the same enthusiasm as Willy Wonka telling Mike Teavee not to climb into the Wonkavision.

@DanOpcode@mastodon.social @Tutanota@mastodon.social It took me almost a year to fully uproot Google from my life. But, it was sooooo worth it! My advice - be prepared for a long battle. It takes time to backup important emails, photos, and documents. And it takes time to update accounts with new email addresses. Leave some buffer time after switching to see if you still get emails from accounts you forgot about. But when it's done, you'll feel lighter on your feet.

@brainsuxx666 @someone123456789 @Lightfighter @Tutanota Not at all. I'm saying I was so satisfied with eOS that I never moved on from it to try GrapheneOS. I've heard nothing but great things about GrapheneOS. I think it's more security-focused, while eOS is more privacy-focused.

@someone123456789 @Lightfighter @Tutanota Pixel 8 I intentionally purchased it used because I didn't want to give Google any of my money. I chose the Pixel 8 because it is a viable option for Graphene OS and a few of the Linux OSs. I like to have options, but after putting eOS on I haven't looked back.

@Viss@mastodon.social @Herndonite@mastodon.online Just curious... Did you read the Snopes article before making assumptions about the intent of the person who posted it? (Full disclosure - I did not due to the pay wall) But, Snopes is exremely reputable, so regardless of whether it supports the claim or not it's a worthy contribution to the conversation.

@DanOpcode@mastodon.social @Tutanota@mastodon.social you're not wrong there. Learning how to root Android was a blast. I was a nervous wreck about bricking my phone, and even thought I did at one point. But it all worked out.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Done. Done. And done. The only tie I still have to Google is the integrated map on my Hyundai Kona infotainment system, and I can't disable it or install an alternative. Anyone know how to root an infotainment system?
