Hi, I'm Troy McClure! You may know me from furry porn parodies such as The Gape of Water and Findom Nemo.
Sparky
'91 Pansexual cat-person.
Casual gamer, Linux user
F(L)OSS enthusiast, avoids AI nonsense.
Sometimes rants about stuff that annoys me.
Tries to be accessible, only boosts pics with good alt text.
So... is this a skill or a time issue?
If you don't have the skills to develop games yourself, then how do you make sure that whatever the AI churns out is sensible? How do you patch issues? How do you add new features?
And if you don't have the time... who says you have to release a game within any timeframe at all? Take five years, ten years, twenty, however long it takes.
Look
I know it's Halloween and all
But even so, that's no reason for the local library to jumpscare me with a...
🤢
...MrBeast book.
Okay, the whole "let's throw native Linux games at Batocera" thing eventually got old because I often ran into problems with dependencies and whatnot.
So I made a backup of the SSD to my laptop's internal storage (cloning it to a different drive took too long, because apparently every other drive I got writes at glacial speeds at best, which makes writing 256GB of data to them a chore), and - after first trying SteamOS, and failing - installed Bazzite.
Now it's a Steam Machine Lite!
At least this time, Apple isn't trying to tell their customers that the latest and ellegedly greatest iPhone bricked its cellular modem because they were "holding it wrong".
Me, while browsing 1TB SSDs, after sorting them by price (ascending) and seeing a particular "brand"name:
Huh. The "Gamerking". I wonder if he can provide cheaper storage.
(Note: No, he can't.)
Found the print version of Mastodon
People: *arguing about whether Apple, Amiga or Atari computers had the best operating system*
Me: ¿Por qué no los DOS? :WhyNotBoth:
"Stuff's borked. For more info, check Discord."
No.
I may have a Discord account, but I am being *very* selective about the servers I join, and in most cases it's to be a member of a community.
That is what Discord is for:
Communities.
It is not a Wiki.
It is not a status page.
It is not a repository.
It is not your website.
It is not a bug tracker or ticket system.
It is not an RSS feed.
It is not a blog.
Don't use it for any of those things.
Oh, you have Gigabit speeds at home?
That's cute - Syncthing is syncing my Steam Deck with my Server with *infinite speed* over WiFi right now. 😎
FYI, for those who are (IMHO rightfully) concerned about Canonical's announcement of adding AI bollocks to #Ubuntu:
1. It won't be added until 26.10 at the earliest
2. It will be strictly Opt-In, and only installed when desired
3. It will be served as Snaps, so easily removable once installed
4. The plan is that it's going to run on local models only
I love it when it's a normal amount of warm outside.
Clothes dry quickly outside, you are nice and warm in the sun, can read a nice book, and while nothing stops you from enjoying BBQ-season food off-season, it still feels right to sit outside and enjoy some bratwurst paired with pasta- or potato salad, or some corn on the cob plus baguette breadrolls with herb butter.
Dear Wagner,
I think you confused Sonic with Mario, and Shadow with Sonic.
Or why else did you put Sonic on the box with the frozen pasta-topped mini pizzas, and Shadow on the ones topped with chopped-up hotdogs?
Always remember to read the *whole* document before signing it, folks.
Not just the header.
Not just the first paragraph.
Especially if it's about future plans for a company you are financially supporting.
And also, losing your temper and shouting in a courtroom doesn't help your case either.
Just noticed by chance that my old smartwatch is now supported to some degree by AsteroidOS, and I looked all over for it.
Probably took me a good hour or so.
...I think I may have thrown it out at some point, as I no longer used it, and - if that vague memory-shaped thing in my head is truthful - may have had trouble getting it to charge the last time I used it.
Dang.
So... turns out I may have been a little too dismissive of my little HP Prodesk 405 G4 Mini's specs.
I mean, I knew it's Ryzen 5 2400G is a not terrible Ryzen chip, and as such was somewhat suited for low 1080p gaming.
But more or less by accident, I found out that in benchmarks, it's more or less comparable to the Steam Deck, but with slightly worse multicore performance in benchmarks, some give-and-take with the iGPU, and a limit of 2GB of VRAM. 😅
If it had a big SSD, I'd give SteamOS a go.
...oh, goodie. HW-accelerated Transcoding in Jellyfin broke again. 😓
At least someone else seems to have a similiar problem on a very similiar setup.

With any luck, they will find a solution that also helps me, because unless I get a brainwave, I got nuffin'. Logs say nothing that helps me, troubleshooting steps indicate that stuff *ought to* work. Yet, it does not. :WTF_Cat:
