Bank apps in Brazil demand face scans to validate installations for some years now, so while the path is different, result can easily be similar: your expenses are tied to your identity. No privacy and a track record if someone wants to do some fishing expeditions. The current government here, which is being seen as a dictatorship more and more even by its previous allies, was also trying to push for Drex, a cryptocurrency they would control, while also trying to kill physical money. The Executive also did a rule that if you made more than a total sum of iirc 5000 reais in transactions in a month (very low amount tbh), you had to show all your finances of the year to the government agency tasked with gains and expenses taxes, killing another aspect of privacy and financial privacy.

Full sentence translators? Only ones that come to mind are LibreTranslate, plus if you'd like to try, the instance from Mastodon.Uno's group since the LibreTranslate dev team's official instance requires an API key. Also maybe local LLMs if you trust they won't go rogue and connect to open wifis like LG TVs do, or if you can ensure they won't escape containment. Furthermore, if you just need to translate individual words or some times smaller expressions, there's disc-based translators and dictionaries though they usually require older systems, maybe Google Play ones (specially paid ones) if you keep them in an offline VM with Vanilla Android, QuickDic on F-Droid, etc. For CD and offline dictionaries, I collect them, so I can also comment on specific ones or on specific language combos.

Linux Mint is generally the best "it just works" case, focused on stability (to the detriment of speed of updates), ease of use and visually reminding of Windows. Also Mint comes with a few official visual* changes, but if I might suggest, go with Xfce, not the Cinnamon one. The Cinnamon version of Mint has too many animations that only add micro workflow delays, while Xfce doesn't have all the fancy effects making it faster to use. *avoiding technical jargons to not confuse the OP

Unfamiliar with the device, but here's some from the top of my head and from my experience that seem less on the masochist side: Neo Geo: Metal Slug X, 3 and 5, I'd say. SNES: Final Fantasy VI Mega Drive: Tanglewood (and yes, it's an actually modern game) GBC/GBA: maybe Shantae? It feels in an odd spot between arcade difficulty and streamlined/story-oriented difficulty. Apple IIGS & Macintosh Classic: the MacVenture series. NES: Nyx: The Paradox Relic (also modern game)

If yours feel like a stable/balanced setup, maybe find another project? From my experience, without majorly reconfiguring the machine, virtual machines, RSS and making your own programs can be rather time-consuming, though also carrying a challenge you may be lacking as is now.

Of the Sonic games for the Mega Drive, oddest one imo was the 3D one, though understandable as it's from a time of experimental games. Also if the OP has the game on Steam (it's been delisted), there's a mod in the workshop made by one of the original devs that adds some QoL features, and it comes as a complete ROM, no patching needed (afaik mods for all games in the Mega Drive/Genesis Classics came like that).

Adding to that, racing games from my experience shift gears automatically, so the hand OP would use for shifting them would be mostly free. Also makes me think, maybe the pedals could be configured as the motion keys in shooter games? Mouse could steer the character left and right, while pedals would move ahead and back. Just dunno how many keyboard keys OP would need to be creative with. And to the OP, hope you can recover fully! 💪

LLM shoehorning aside, holy shit, mobile-oriented site designs never fail to negatively impress me. Dunno if it's the poor use of space, way too many pre-made categories shoved in the sidebar, text elements not being as clearly differentiated making them be ADHD triggers/inducers, or something else, but the beta forum for Stack Overflow feels like it ticks each problem I can think of. Please give the jank. At least jank is usable, predictable and doesn't make you feel like you need to take focus drugs/meds.

@lina@vt.social quality vs. quantity I think is a worthy reason to keep going: You took the effort to understand the framework. "Vibecoders", horrible name for people that are more of managers / commissioners, looking at how they seem to go usually, likely at most just look at the output and if don't see anything obviously wrong, just push it to production. So if this other other project is indeed machine-generated, which would seem so by the speed it came and the snippet you showed, it wouldn't sound far-fetched the in-depth understanding and by extension, the quality, are compromised. Also, going by some experiences of my own, I would also note there are way too many people, some even seemingly well-intented, that want to drag down any ideas and projects, as well as those that brought such up. Can't say that's the case for this other individual, but if it is, you giving up also means the person wins. And lastly, being the same solution on the snippet you showed, couldn't it be considered theft, specially if there's no attribution?

Also regarding Nvidia, I don't have great experience with it, but Mint Cinnamon and Mint Xfce work rather well with the RTX board my laptop has, just having to add a control tool to change from the default Intel one. And dunno how it is nowadays, but there's a third version of Mint, LMDE, that when I tested, was very problematic to get the Nvidia board to work. Though that was over a year ago so maybe they fixed it since.

If turn-based is preferred, I'd also recommend Slayers for the SNES, based on the shounen series with the same name. Also, PSP emulation is a bit odd on processing demand from my experience, but if the Miyoo can play it, I recommend also Final Fantasy II for the PSP, the most feature-complete version of the game.

On the first point, one of the reasons I use and would suggest either Mbin or Friendica. Both are hybrid, meant to bring together microblogging and threads, like Mastodon and Lemmy, and by extension, a bigger chunk of the fediverse.

On the second point, if you want to keep things floating around, maybe cross-post them to a personal community in a separated instance. The line between preservation and redundancy is often non-existant. Other than that, there are some things you could do like commenting or boosting derelict posts from dead instances, to help keeping them floating.

On the third point, I suppose Lemmy can be a bit laborious to find new stuff, so specially for it, I'd suggest places like !communitypromo@lemmy.ca and !trendingcommunities@lemmy.cafe, though maybe those would defeat the purpose. Alternatively, and bringing Mbin and Friendica a third time, they have boost features, so if someone you follow boosts posts, they get included in your feed (note: boosts in the feed are opt-in on Mbin).

On the fourth point, on the threadiverse side of things, Lemmy can be a bit isolated indeed. With microblogging and by extension (ahem) hybrid thread/microblogging platforms, there are more options, like trending tags bots, RSS Parrot, Bridgy Fed, and easier connection to less standard places using ActivityPub. RSS Parrot in special I'm finding pretty useful. Most stuff I follow is in places with RSS, so I can add them to the bot to have in my feed.

And back on point 1, whatever I can use on browsers, I do. If I don't get a function natively, I make Ublock Origin filters and Violentmonkey scripts. If I can't figure out, I ask LLMs to generate something that works for me. If I need to open links to other instances because of e.g. RSS, I have an userscript I keep increasing that redirects the links to my instance's search page, since searches are hardcoded in the link.

@Tutanota Brazil isn't a democracy. Australia had a tendency of censorship for several years now from what I followed so I wonder how far off it had been. And not familiar with Greece to comment on them. Saying it's unstoppable normalizes in the mind of the people the problem for when it does come, a strategy used to exhaustion in Brazil so people don't push back.

About being a generic title, doesn't sound so imo. More like "it sounds like it carries personal meaning to the posts". Also about the post making sense or not, seems a bit rambly, though I'd say it's understandable, being annoyed and all. About lack of capacity to choose, I've been noticing that since 2018, so maybe it isn't a recent issue at least. Also if I may suggest, maybe try pushing past maybe the second mark (boss, stage, puzzle, etc.) before making a verdict. Some times it just takes time for a game to grow on you. About degrading quality, usually the games in such events are a minority, a loud one but still a minority. If you didn't, ever considered trying indies and older games? Also, in the past 10~20 years, a degradation of culture overall seems to have happened, these bigger games at least in perception seemingly being the most affected by it, and indies being decentralized projects being harder to have these shifts leaked onto them (and old games are static in time hehe). So another reason to recommend those two groups.

Are wi-fi hotspots/repeaters a good way to mitigate privacy issues from routers? Routers from what I understand have a few way to monitor people around, like radio-based sonar, logging and informing of every device that connects to it, etc. If wanting to ensure some more #privacy, would it be a good option to keep the router as far as possible from the common areas of the house, so what I can "see" is blurry at best, while using repeaters like old phones on vanilla AOSP and SBC devices? That's not my area so maybe I'm going way off in my assumptions, but I'd think that these repeaters wouldn't bridge sonar functions, they wouldn't report on devices connected through them, their systems wouldn't be a black box unlike the router itself, data packets sent from devices with VPN would remain encrypted while they go through the repeaters and router's route, and with ethernet cables could allow for an specially long distance. So... Would it be an interesting option?

@veronica also one can take so much bs. Windows is just user-unfriendly enough to grind one's gears in the long run, and from what I tested from some recent MacOS version, feels like OEM Android distros with how stiff it felt. If someone sticking to such systems can be convinced to test, from what I observed over the years, such person will be more prone to "deshitify" his/her workflow and tools, even if not necessarily moving to Linux.
