Stefan Helmreich and I are convening a panel on W ~ A • V ~ E .. S at EASST/4S conference

Waves: Environment, Excess, Transformation

Waves flicker in today’s visions of environmental transformation. Consider heat, seismic, COVID, and tsunami waves or the vibrations of wireless communication, light pollution, and noise. Waves transform the world; this panel invites STS scholars to tune in to how, when, where, and with what logics.

Today I sent a fax. Can anyone beat that?

Finally out! Writing books together to make new friends. That is what this was. Apart from an invitation to bring urban sociology in conversation with cultural studies, anthropology and STS

Ob das ein Kompliment ist:

“Lieber Herr Ignacio Farias,

Sie haben echt Arsch in der Hose. Sie setzen sich mutwillig jeden Tag oder zumindest einmal in der Woche mit einer ganzen Zeitung auseinander. Hut ab!”

Soll ich meine Zeitungsabo kündigen?

I am so happy (and proud!) to see this special issue on Elemental Urbanism coming out.

It features the work of a group of MA students at the Institut für Europäische Ethnologie - HU Berlin, whom I had the opportunity of supporting throughout, as well as MA students from the Geography Department at HU Berlin supervised by my fantastic co-editor Laura Kram. It also includes the work of Mirja Busch, Sandra Jasper, Elisabeth Luggauer and Jorge Martín Sainz Terreros.
