Petition: Stop allowing the US to use British bases for any action against Iran
"The UK claims that it is only taking defensive action in the Israel-US & Iran war. We think that letting the US use British bases does not align with this claim, that it is not in our interest and does not support peace in the region. Stop the US use of bases in all capacities, including defensive."

@dch @ScottishGreens yes. It's a very good idea. I've long advocated for something like this. I realise it can be circumvented, but one has to start somewhere.

Not got any ID? The tories have deliberately made it more difficult for you to vote because they know you're probably not voting for them. They're counting on you not bothering to click on this link to get yourself some free ID.

@bodhipaksa @IndyRichard local elections depend a lot on the candidate, not just the party. It's quite possible to visit every single house in the ward you are campaigning in. I was a candidate last time and I did - but so did the person who won. There was less than 50 votes in it though.
It's hard work, but if you do the work you will probably be competitive.

@AngleseyStick @DarkOptimism @goodlawproject yes, I'm pretty sure this is NHS England only.
It's still absolutely crazy though. And it's possible that it might include some data on Welsh patients who have been treated in England because of cross-border arrangements.
All supposedly anonymised, but put together a few medical conditions plus AI, join to one or two other databases (such as data harvested from social media) and deanonymising becomes fairly easy.

@NationCymru@toot.wales it's not new I'm afraid. I had a similar shock on the doorstep back in the local elections in 2017. I was told quite bluntly by one English immigrant from Birmingham that he'd moved to mids Wales to "get away from the black faces".
I was initially taken aback, but I've found that attitude elsewhere. Racists are no longer frightened to admit their racism, thanks to Farage and his people.

@johan @LilahTovMoon how about 3 from 3, or 4 from 5 including the final two; you could also require the average to be be at least 55%, for extra security. There is benefiting having something of a supermajority, because a divided society is not good.

@BibbleCo@infosec.exchange that's probably not a bad tactic for local elections.
Come the GE though (like you imply) kicking the tories out is the most important thing.

@stephenwhq@mastodon.social that's right. But a lot of people won't have those things. Such people are disproportionately not tory voters.

@DotMaetrix@chitter.xyz that's a very good point. Not too many trans people would vote tory I guess (though Labour have hardly been great in the topic either of late).
Postal vote is probably the way to go in such cases where photos might not match.

@alanfleming@mastodon.me.uk I don't, I suspect it's going to be down to individual parties. It would be good if some organisation would take this on though; perhaps MakeVotesMatter?

@crysophylax@neurodifferent.me yes. And voter suppression is also an issue; it's a tactic of the right-wing which has been observed in recent elections. So, for example, targeting younger voters with social media ads which make them feel there's no point in voting.

@llamasoft_ox@toot.wales when the gardening rush is over. That's my plan!
My bike is sitting there waiting at the moment. I got out of it after breaking my ankle just under two years ago, and I've not got back into it yet. So every bit of motivation helps!

@nspugh@toot.wales @solar_chase@mastodon.green that's an interesting question. But shouldn't we treat a source which is carbon neutral through a relatively short lifetime (planting to burning) as renewable?
I can see the argument against peat (a 4000 year turn around - but the crisis is now), but over a few decades I think we're probably ok with biomass.
