The amazing realization everyone is having is that Bluesky hands out permabans for blocking their moderation bot account, but a malicious user can invite people to subscribe to what appears to be a valid block list, then set the list to block the moderation account and get every subscriber threatened with account termination.
This revelation is happening at the same time as one of the devs openly bragging about vibe coding.

I'm kind of tired of this framing. It feels less like an accurate description of subatomic reality and more like an ice-breaking opener when you meet a nerd at a bar.
I don't even know that it's accurate. It feels like "forbidden knowledge" and that puts me on alert
You know the type of "forbidden knowledge" I'm talking about: it's in the same category as all the "government/scientists/insurance companies/whatever don't want you to know this". It's an invitation to be part of a special class of citizen who has privileged knowledge on the nature of reality, but doesn't "matter is mostly empty space" lean on the idea that everything is still a billiard ball? What does an electron look like when it occupies an orbital? Is it like an angry bee in a jar (or series of jars)? Or is that the idea we're trying to get away from, but not here for some reason?
even if it was a billiard ball or angry bee, if that volume of spacetime is occupied and effectively off-limits to everything that we would traditionally consider "stuff", what does it even matter? If someone buys a house, it's not empty because there aren't more people in it packed like sardines
I dunno. It just bugs the shit out of me. I don't think "matter is mostly empty space" conveys significantly useful information. Maybe I'm wrong? I'm not a particle physicist, or even a regular physicist, or a scientist at all.
It just feels like a cheap gotcha, is all.

It's stuff to think about, but even without HDR, 10-bit is still something that should be accessible but isn't, and that's the core problem is that a lot of new software is a black box; there's a deliberate motion to take away configuration options for the sake of... user friendliness? It's nice when it does work, but when it doesn't, there's really nothing you can do unless you want to dig into code, and I don't, because I'm not a programmer. I'm an artist.

@portaloffreedom@social.linux.pizza I would be disappointed in this monitor if it wasn't advertising 10-bit faculties, it's meant for workstations. It wasn't the most expensive thing out there, but it definitely wasn't cheap.
EDR fakes HDR by brightening and dimming the backlight itself, which is... not great.

Like, I think we now have to define what empty space is, because as @howking@mastodonczech.cz responded here, matter is most definitely compressible if there's enough gravity, but in my mind, it does not follow that this means that there's a reduction of what we would interpret as empty space.
Like, what does an electron look like in its orbital? My casual knowledge leads me to believe it's a probability "slurry" in that volume, definitely present, but not exactly defined unless you collapse it with an observation.
Compressing that volume (as might happen with a star on its way to neutron star status) doesn't necessarily mean that a volume is *losing* empty space. An orbital is still a unit of "electron is probably here", and the electron's wave still fills that volume in such a way that excludes other electrons, so even if that volume gets smaller, it is effectively still fully occupied or "filled".
Likewise with the distance between nucleus and orbitals. If it's effectively off-limits except under specific circumstances (coloumb barrier?), how is it different from any piece of matter attempting to travel through an orbital where it *might* interact but might not?
Is this an extremely wrong view of what is happening subatomically?
