Well, since there seems to be a good bit of anti-systemd sentiment out there, here's something to chew on...I successfully used the guide below to install a barebones Debian netinstall, strip out systemd and install openRC as Cybersecguru demonstrates.
I did this on modern hardware: a System76 lemurpro-13 with coreboot dual booting. I currently have kde-plasma-desktop working and full access to Debian apt repos - this was maybe a 5/10 difficulty install. I'll post a writeup on my blog at some point, but check the comments in the page for some details. Probably a few items to tweak still but fully operational. Thanks Cybersecguru!

@thedoctor@polymaths.social @homelab@fedigroups.social portainer lets you pulls stacks from git repos and update when they do. I have mine setup that way.

@thedoctor@polymaths.social @homelab@fedigroups.social I have all my docker-compose files in their own repo Unfortunately you will have to name folders as the container names, then each folder will have the docker-compose.yml named file. Portainer is a web frontend...so if you are looking for a CLI option, probably not ur cup of tea, but its polished and user friendly, and works pretty well IMHO fir this purpose. On the plus side its free and you can monitor up to 3 separate docker instances. I have over 20 containers that I manage over 2 proxmox lxc's

@thomzane@daedal.io trisquel is similar, I have used that as well. Librewolf I have found is a little more available across many Linux distros as a .bin. Both excel at being privacy first, and ublock friendly. I havent used trisquel in about a year. No telemetry and no AI is also a must. #Firefox #librewolf #trisquel #linux

@dazo@infosec.exchange @philcowans@universeodon.com we ***could debate all day. The new gnome is not as straightforward and if you are coming from macos or windows, the familiarity of the toolbar and system tray is there, yes there's a lot in the config settings, but at least its all there, right in front of you. All I'm saying.

@dgoodmaniii@rcsocial.net few reasons...but main being that Devuan has proprietary repos, where this method had access to the entire Debian repo framework. Also as noted by the author, its a good learning experience to see what's going on under the hood. Devuan is a simple install and if you don't care about any of the above or that's all you are looking for, then its a great option. That being said I'm a tinkerer, so this type of stuff I find fascinating and a useful exercise.

@dgoodmaniii@rcsocial.net they are one of the few distros out there that have package builds that work with alternative sys inits. I love arch, but I'm leaving that distro behind due to its ties with systemd -- its hardcoded, so not easy to do anything like this guide does with Debian and openRC...Artix seems like a good try, but struggles with video and usability. As far as I have it tested, I am struggling with Bluetooth and the openRC compatibility - sound not playing over wireless headsets but thats solvable with some tinkering in the confs I think. Overall the kde-plasma-desktop and openRC is pretty damn daily driver friendly...

@trashheap@tech.lgbt @keisatsu@infosec.exchange Thanks for the recs. Since I'm shooting for all #NoAi I am testing Gentoo no-multilib with #niri and #noctalia, see how it goes...I first tested #DMS (Dank Linux) but they are using #claude. It got me used to the idea of niri though so I could make another leap
