@nycki i have pondered this more and there is clearly some valorization of the 'explorers of old' and their actions since that's where much of the notion of world exploration came from, but i also heard someone say "i just think it means people want a vacation"
so yeah lamenting the inability to explore '"undiscovered" lands' necessarily erases all the people who lived on those lands - which is why i had rephrased it earlier since i believe that most people are driven by curiosity and not colonialism, but that ignores the reality of historic explorers who met the people that lived in those places and still treated the land as if it were universally unknown and undiscovered
i do still think that when most people say it, it comes from a yearning for a different environment, for change, out of curiosity, but also @MossGrowsOnNormanRuins 's other responses also make a lot of sense - and on a slight tangent to that note, holy fuck golden visa buy-your-way-into-residency-or-citizenship programs are such blatant racist and colonial bullshit that make we want to tear down every single border and world government by hand
do yall have any qr code generator recommendations
i generally just use https://qrcode.tec-it.com/en but it's pretty basic and having cosmetic options n whatnot is nice
does anyone have experience w phone cases from pelacase? i found them looking for a new case for my 8a (since my dbrand one has just fallen apart) and i would like something more colorful than an otterbox
duckduckfedi i have been given a friend of a friend's pixel 5a that got stuck partway through a webusb graphene install
developer settings were enabled, oem unlocking was enabled, and the phone was put into fastboot
when clicking the "Unlock Bootloader" button on the graphene install page, the phone switched to the bootloader unlock confirmation screen, but neither the volume buttons nor the power button worked to interact with the fastboot options
holding the power button for ~20 seconds reboots into fastboot, but the power button can't be used to select the start option to boot into stock android
is there any way to rescue it?
soo fucking tired of “master/slave” being used to describe device pairs, processes, what have you
i was watching a video on uart/i2c/spi and in the spi section they specifically mention that they’re also called controller/peripheral.. and then choose not to use them, despite it literally being called serial peripheral interface
at least use parent/child or something. that connotation isn’t great but at least you’re not invoking the entire genocidal history of supremacy culture to describe connecting two devices
like controller/peripheral is right there, or host/client, or main/sub, major/minor, anything else
im glad some of it is finally changing, like most git forges defaulting to main, and git itself changing the default branch name, uh, 21 years after its initial release, but i cannot see how anyone would in good conscious choose to keep using names like that
im sure it’s reflective of the utter lack of social awareness in tech and the current gestures vaguely but fuck it just reads like a dogwhistle at this point
@goat@fuzzies.wtf@rachaelspooky@cyberpunk.lol@curiousicae@tech.lgbt@0x57e11a@void.lgbt@micr0@wetdry.world yea just echoing the same sentiment, i dislike altbot and feel like it can in many cases be actively detrimental, but i havent wanted to say anything bad about it because i know that people are quick to hate on yall for unhelpful reasons
it was the example which started this thread that convinced me to say something about it, because ive seen it lauded as a solution for something that could be done far easier and better without it
@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems am i wrong in feeling like this article was written by an llm
the new routing looks super cool but the writing feels very off
@micr0@wetdry.world no it federated, altbot's alt text is just unnecessarily long and far too detailed for something that doesn't need two paragraphs of description
