Hormuz Strait, Iran opens to Trump: "We will reopen it within 7 days if you cease military pressure." And Tehran says it is ready to return to negotiations with the US.
The Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the U.S. counter-blockade of Tehran’s ports are driving up fuel prices. An unsustainable situation that is having repercussions on both the regime in Iran, with crude oil exports brought to a minimum, and the global economy. Therefore, the ayatollahs this morning have proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if Donald Trump's United States takes the first steps towards easing military pressure, by halting raids.
This news comes from the Japanese news agency Kyodo, according to which the proposal has already been transmitted to Washington through intermediaries. According to Kyodo, citing a Tehran official briefed on the dossier, any agreement would foresee the resumption of negotiations aimed at definitively ending hostilities between the two countries. Tehran hopes to achieve the agreement by exploiting the United Nations General Assembly, which is meeting this week in New York, perhaps through a meeting between an American and an Iranian delegation.
The same official ruled out that there could be a meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Assembly. “There is the possibility of moving towards an agreement,” the official said, adding however that Washington must demonstrate “seriousness and commitment” so that diplomacy can progress.
