@rl_dane@polymaths.social • Calendar: remind(1) • Personal finances: hledger 1.x (there's some LLM-generated code in the 2.x branch) • Music: cmus(1) AFAICT • Scripting/programming: shell, #awk, C Do you happen to know the slopification-status of mutt/neomutt for mail or lynx for web-browsing? Also, as I was typing this reply, @joel@gts.tumfatig.net shared https://noailist.org/social-networking-and-messaging/ in my feed

@jpaskaruk@growers.social This sounds like a job for AWK. #AWK #grep #RegEx

Seconding @drscriptt@oldbytes.space's suggestion here. But running with @bobjonkman@mastodon.sdf.org's, the #awk syntax would be similar: awk '/-A/,/^$/' or awk '/-A/,!length' @jpaskaruk@growers.social

@Jhelberg@mastodon.social@jpmens@mastodon.social For CSV, it's pretty easy to strip subsequent header-rows with a bit of #awk $ awk 'NR==1 || FNR != 1' file1.csv file2.csv file3.csv > combined.csv Just in case you ever need it 🙂

"...the street finds its own uses for things" (William Gibson, Burning Chrome) is probably my favorite literary line to quote, regarding use of tech. It's something of a mantra I repeat to remind myself that every technology created, whether through academia or big evil industry, will eventually be co-opted by the people and put to uses never intended. This was the essence of (old school) hacking. My street tools have been #perl #forth #awk and #tcl
