So here's the final print, slightly modified from the test print; the carving on some of the blocks has been tidied up, and there's now yellow added to the lantern and a dark gradation at the top making it look more finished.

And that's the colour blocks now carved. One each for the background, the red kimono and glow in the lantern, and the yellow kimono collar and pattern and the lantern.

With the colour separations done, the black outlines are transferred to the first wood block - the keyblock - for carving. This is a 150 x 200mm block of katsura, a wood more readily available than the traditional mountain cherry (although, ironically, both of my usual suppliers are now out-of-stock).

Changed my mind about the yellow colour - most old copies show a blue border to the kimono, so recarved that block to remove the area under the kimono (the lantern will probably be ignored for now too).

@kevlin I'm pretty sure it's actually done on purpose. A lot of people confuse accuracy with precision, so a very precise value - Google Maps telling me it'll take 4 hours 21 mins to get to London if I leave now - makes people believe it must be right.

I've just found a website impersonating my own company. Interestingly, they've not duplicated the content (so I can't go after them for copyright), but they're clearly trying to get people to think the site is valid as it has my company address on it. The only contact info is via a form, which I guess avoids customers accidentally contacting the real company (me!).
